Yeah, maybe the bread has a point, but…
Talking bread?
????
I’m with you on this one.
pirk Mar 15th 2010 at 01:22 am 2
seems like the sort of humor thatd be in like the new yorker
furrykef Mar 15th 2010 at 01:46 am 3
I don’t think there’s anything to it beyond the unexpectedness of the bread butting in on the conversation.
Kamino Neko Mar 15th 2010 at 01:58 am 4
Don’t you mean buttering in on?
chuckers Mar 15th 2010 at 05:33 am 5
They so obviously don’t belong together that even the loaf of bread can see it.
David N Mar 15th 2010 at 06:47 am 6
And if the two of them disagree, they can always “break bread” together.
Brian Leahy Mar 15th 2010 at 07:20 am 7
Well, it definitely isn’t “complimentary” bread….
Ian Osmond Mar 15th 2010 at 08:48 am 8
I’m with chuckers on this one. When even the BREAD can see that you’re not being emotionally honest, you really ought to work on that issue.
I mean, the wine, yeah, a lot of wines are pretty emotionally astute. But bread? Bread isn’t really known for its empathy. I mean, bread’s nice enough, not saying anything against it, but it’s not really what you’d talk to for useful advice about your relationship.

If it were the server person, they would have been more aware of making their personal topics semi-public. But they didn’t know about the sentient bread, so didn’t drop into that awkward silence or subject-change while it was on the table.

The only thing that makes this cartoon funny is Brian Leahy’s (7) comment. That got a laugh. Thanks Brian.

Two muffins are in the oven. The first one says to the second one, “is it just me or is it hot in here?” The second muffin replies–”Whoever heard of a talking MUFFIN?!?!?”
(This strip reminded me of my 11 year old’s favorite joke these days)
The Bad Seed Mar 15th 2010 at 12:10 pm 12
Yeah, it’s so blatantly obvious that even the bread feels compelled to speak up. Actually, this one was a LOL for me - and I know a lot of couples that this would probably happen to if it were even remotely possible.
John Small Berries Mar 15th 2010 at 02:42 pm 13
What made it funny to me was the fact that they don’t seem at all surprised or alarmed that the bread is talking to them.
paperboy Mar 15th 2010 at 03:35 pm 14
This is a “geezer” comic. Sure, the bread might’ve talked to you before, but now it’s more likely to be ignoring you and texting.
tee_eff_em Mar 15th 2010 at 07:26 pm 15
I dunno, I think this strip does have a certain wry humor….
Mark M Mar 15th 2010 at 07:44 pm 16
That bread is just what they kneaded.
Steffen Mar 15th 2010 at 08:01 pm 17
This is hilarious.
Lola Mar 15th 2010 at 08:09 pm 18
For some reason, when I click on the Bread links from Google reader, they all return with a 404 page. It’s the only one doing it, the rest work fine.

tee_eff_em#15 & mark M #16- HHH! (that means”Ha ha ha”: appreciative laughter without irony)

Lola, I mentioned in the WordPress/DST thread that every time I try to fix something in this system, it causes other problems. Here’s a perfect example. Since the Bread post went live at the wrong time, I went back and fixed it — but that changed the URL WordPress had originally assigned it (and Google had already picked up).
The lesson: Leave small problems alone.
Lola Mar 15th 2010 at 11:46 pm 21
A bit of synchronicity and … dare I say … irony.
Another BF Mar 16th 2010 at 07:48 am 22
Talking bread? D’oh!
Todd Mar 17th 2010 at 04:43 pm 23
I found this one funnier than much of what makes it to the LOL posts.
