I can’t help you, but it’s not intended to be “El Vista” but rather “Elvista”, the joke definitely won’t work without that.

That, and the joke is about 3 years too late, now that Windows 7 is out.
I think the writer just barely noticed that Vista and Elvis share 3 letters, and Vista is ’shiny’, like the King himself.

And Vista does display a “swirly thang” when it goes into a fugue state, although it doesn’t much resemble the comic’s color wheel.

The “swirly thang” in the comic resembles the spinning wait cursor (aka, spinning wheel of death or spinning beach ball of death) in OS X.

Not-well-thought-out bad pun-based cartoon. And resistance from WHOM? They could have just said “The new ElVista OS is rolled out” and been done with it.

Both were fat and slow moving before their deaths.

Can’t add much except that ‘all froze up’ is a reference to ‘all shook up’.

yeah i converted to macs for my own personal use (and still use XP professional at work) so i have very little experience with the actual vista, but the swirling ball thingie is commonly seen in OSX whenever you are waiting for something to happen. It’s sort of like an hourglass, but different. So that kind of confused me a little. Does Vista (or any incarnation of windows) have that spinning ball thingie? I seem to remember mostly hourglasses in XP…

Vista has a blue circular spinny thing as a wait cursor, but it looks nothing like the one in the comic.
As opposed to criticizing possibly the weakest pun in history, I’d like to focus on the fact that Vista’s been out about 3 years now… very timely gag.

In the original Macintosh, the wait cursor was a wristwatch, and it was a source of amusement to Mac users when Windows I came out with its hourglass, implying that you would have to wait for an hour.
We were easily amused in those days.
Oddly, back then the Mac was ready to go as soon as you powered it on. Programs ran so much faster then.

The spinny thing is NOT like a color wheel. It’s more like a rotating circular version of the recycle symbol, and it’s monochrome blue.

Like the recycle symbol, it betokens rubish.

It wasn’t an hourglass - it was an egg timer.
It’s true, however, that Microsoft poached the idea from Apple.

Mark Jackson (13) - That’s a little hard-boiled of you to say that!
Whenever I saw the hourglass/eggtimer I always thought to myself that it was “clocking”. To me this meant it was going to take forever for something. I used the term “clocking” to my husband (a computer programmer) once and he looked at me like I was crazy (not unusual). It seems that I was the only person who used that term. I still use it to myself.

Mark #10, the Mac still boots up way faster than a Windows machine. I’ve now had ample opportunity to observe that, ever since I got a PC at work, and I’ve asked around, just to make sure it wasn’t my PC. My aging work Mac seems to move at the speed of light, in comparison.
So, Elvista operating system. Actually, the joke is timely. Elvis and Vista are both dead, yet some people pretend that’s not the case.

You also have to boot a windows PC more often than a Mac.

The cartoonist must be a Mac user who hasn’t touched Windows since the 9x days. Every time I hear “32 bit patch to a 16 bit…” (can’t remember the whole thing), I think that shows just how ignorant the speaker/writer is. Except for the “two bit company that can’t stand one bit of competition” part.
