Plus the family name is spelled (in English) “Toyoda,” because of some Japanesy character thing.
There ought to be a tag: “Comics that got enough facts wrong that I obsessed about those and never made it to the punchline.”

In addition to getting the facts wrong, the art confused me. The back of the couch looked like a panel border, and the guy under the newspaper is so well-hidden I had to struggle to figure out what he was.

Technically, if an accelerator gets stuck, it doesn’t work. To be completely correct, you would say it doesn’t work properly, but there would be no way to work that into the joke.

Too topical to count as synchronicity, but see
today’s Reality Check.

The reason that Toyota stands behind their cars is that they are afraid to stand in front of them.

Actually, the joke might have been salvaged a bit if the line had been, “There’s definitely no Toyota (Toyoda) in his genealogy, because his accelerator doesn’t work at all.” Not a knee-slapper, but at least it would kinda make sense.
