Do you think he looks like Mr. Peabody?
I don’t.

Lord help me, I don’t get it. But, boy, did I laugh.
Frank the curmudgeon Feb 25th 2010 at 01:16 am 3
Naah, a dweeb.

I have absolutely no idea what the joke is supposed to be, but if the dog were really a nerd, then he would have masking tape holding his collar together.

All i’ve got is that from where the guy is standing, the spots on his back could look like an emoticon?
nup i didn’t think so either….

A dog that gets excited about things that no one else understands, perhaps?
Chuck Feb 25th 2010 at 04:50 am 7
Socially inept dog?
Dave Feb 25th 2010 at 05:44 am 8
Chuck: you might be onto something there… the dog’s not interested in saying hello to the guy. of course if that’s it, then it doesn’t really work - as you naturally assume the dog is interested in something else more exciting out of frame.. like another dog.

Is the heading a reference to Andy Bernard? All I can think of is those really lame TBS commercials with Ed Helms saying, “The Nard Dog doesn’t bake.”

I’m trying to figure out what the guy means by ‘Don’t take this the wrong way’.

Nerd used to be a more of a pejorative than it is today.
… Wait, that doesn’t help at all…

The problem with this comic is that all dogs are nerds. They get excited over the littlest things; they jump up and down when they think you are taking them for a walk; they hide food to find later; they smell dead things and enjoy it etc. Most dog behavior falls into what could be considered nerd behavior. It’s when dogs act as if they couldn’t care less that they are really weird.

There’s that old bit that people will resemble their dogs (or vice-versa); the dad is trying to obliquely tell his son he’s a nerd.
(Marshal#1- Mr. Peabody was cool. Virstultus#11- I thought that it was “geek” that was less perjorative today, because geeks know computers and computers are cool. “Nerd” is still not complimentary.)

Paperboy, there is that whole “I <3 Nerds” thing going around where popular girls think saying they like nerds makes them not shallow.
I hang out at the “Nerd Corner” at school. It’s the section of the market place with the most plugs, so we go there to have power for our laptops. The CS nerds got there first and the anime nerds followed. Some comic book nerds joined in as well, but not many. There were a couple card game nerds, and they brought all their friends even though YOU DON’T NEED PLUGS TO PLAY MAGIC, YOU NEED THEM TO WATCH ANIME AND READ WEBCOMICS.
Yeeeeah.

Thought I was having Deja Vu until I realized I had seen this on Dean Booth’s site. Didn’t know what it meant then either…

Twelve hours later, and … sorry, I got nothing.

i think paperboy might be right about this one, it seems to make the most sense, i think
AmazingThor Feb 26th 2010 at 04:36 pm 20
I think the joke is that his dog is scrawny and spazzy, much like nerds. If the artist had gone more broad in his depiction of a dog nerd it would have been easier to figure out.
