I once had a job that, for the build up to an election, involved very, very long work hours. Not only did I not have the time to wash clothes, I didn't even have time to go to the store to buy clothes. I bought socks and underwear online.

A casual friend of my son's comes from a wealthy family and she's a bit... over-indulged. When she went off to camp last summer, she didn't want to have to deal with laundry, so she arrived with a trunk filled with 42 changes of clothing.

My first reaction was What, her family was too cheap to send a personal maid up to camp with her?

@mkilby I know a guy like that. I worked with him for a while. One day he called to say he was coming in late because he had to buy new clothes. Why did he have to buy new clothes? Because he hadn't done laundry, and didn't feel like doing laundry, so he had nothing suitable to wear to work.

My father used to do this also. He would forget to put his shirts in the hamper, and if they didn't get into the hamper, my mother didn't wash them. Rather than wash shirts the night before, he would drive to the nearest clothing store and buy a new shirt.

I remember a guy at college who said, "I don't feel like doing laundry. I'm going to go buy some new clothes."

I only have class 3 days a week this quarter, so that's only 3 days a week of treking up hills. Last quarter it was only two days. Not surprisingly I've put on some weight these past two quarters and my pants are feeling a little snug. I can't afford new pants, and I should probably exercise more than three times a week anyway.

Plus since they're elderly, a little extra weight is probably better for them, as long as they're still getting exercise and are not obese. Malnutrition is so common in the elderly it's better for them to err on the side of plumpness. Listen to reason, Mrs. Pickles!

Having to unfortunately needed to lose quite a bit of weight myself, I can say that I agree with Turquoise cow. Wearing too tight for my size clothes does nothing but depress me and make me want to eat more. Plus, other people have to see my carcass in ill-fitting clothing and I don't want to be featured in someone else's nightmares (oh no, she's coming right at me!)

I think I have to slightly disagree with Mrs. Pickles. Even though what she said is a good motivation for losing weight, it's probably a good idea to buy larger sized-clothes in order to prevent looking silly, possibly embarrassing yourself, and/or damaging the pants.

I love that strip. Almost every day they make me laugh. Who knew an old couple and I could have so much in common??
