It's all related. I was reading an article yesterday that most of the Hawaiian islands are in the midst of the worst and longest drought in their recorded history. The article stated that the immediate cause was an especially strong El Nino. They didn't posit further from there, but one of the predictions for global warming is that the swings in weather will become more pronounced, with the AVERAGE becoming warmer not every single day being warmer than the next.

Jeff. LOL.

Climate Change has become more common than Global Warming because it is more inclusive: changes in rainfall/snowfall and wind speed and direction, for example. What is amazing is how quickly humans forget what the past "average" weather was. This past month or so would have been considered completely normal for the first thirty plus years of my life, the late 40s through the mid 70s.
Every average is derived from a range of values having lower and higher points, and if this winter is only a new low, then its conditions help determine an average for climate but hardly contradict climate change projections. Where I live, this winter is still marginally above average in temperature and considerably above average in precipitation, mostly rain.
If Al Gore is full of anything, it is an appreciation of the role of science in determining public policy - and a perhaps exaggerated expectation to profit from that appreciation.

You know what would be refreshing? Some guy sitting in rained out Whistler, Canada, two weeks before a winter olympics game, thinking the same thing as the dog in the last panel.
