Right. Because it snows, global warming is NOT happening. Made me smile. Just having fun with the concept. Can we drop the obsession with a cartoonist’s scientific awareness?

Rumpelstiltskin, this was never about cartoonists’ lack of scientific awareness, but rather the fact that just about every cartoonist and stand-up comic has made the exact same joke, in the apparent belief that he’s the first person to think of it. We’re not talking about variations on a theme here: we’re talking about the exact same joke, often word-for-word.

I agree, Bill–it’s an unbelievable hacky joke. And even tho I’m sure I’m just being silly about it, I do expect more from webcomics than regular comics–they have more room to be creative, take risks, be weird, etc, so to see a webcomic resorting to this kind of tired, obvious joke is especially surprising.

I wouldn’t say surprising… disappointing is more accurate.

Pat Robertson is a nutjob. Al Gore is a nutjob. Same concept basically.

Wasn’t THIS a finding in the global warming study?: “… carbon gasses will cause warming around the earth, except in areas where cartoonists reside…”

  7. Sal Jan 30th 2010 at 10:04 pm 7

this is why we no longer use the phrase “Global Warming” now we say “Global Climate Change”

We need a collection of uses of the joke, “everything is the hokey pokey.” It was never funny, I have seen it an average of a few times every week, and, even, good comics use it. I am very tired of that f****** joke!

  9. Cidu Bill Jan 30th 2010 at 10:28 pm 9

    “Everything is the hokey pokey”???

  10. arvy Jan 30th 2010 at 11:27 pm 10

The hokey pokey??? Is THAT what this is all about?

  11. chuckers Jan 30th 2010 at 11:47 pm 11

Of course “everything is the hokey pokey”.

    That’s what it’s all about!

Damn, let my browser sit open too long.

    I had one tab in.
    I had one tab out.
I had one tab googling all about.

You know what would be refreshing? Some guy sitting in rained out Whistler, Canada, two weeks before a winter olympics game, thinking the same thing as the dog in the last panel.

ROTFLOL, Chuckers #12! (And I can so relate!)

Al Gore may Be full of $#@&, but it doesn’t mean he’s wrong. ;)

Climate Change has become more common than Global Warming because it is more inclusive: changes in rainfall/snowfall and wind speed and direction, for example. What is amazing is how quickly humans forget what the past “average” weather was. This past month or so would have been considered completely normal for the first thirty plus years of my life, the late 40s through the mid 70s.
Every average is derived from a range of values having lower and higher points, and if this winter is only a new low, then its conditions help determine an average for climate but hardly contradict climate change projections. Where I live, this winter is still marginally above average in temperature and considerably above average in precipitation, mostly rain.
If Al Gore is full of anything, it is an appreciation of the role of science in determining public policy - and a perhaps exaggerated expectation to profit from that appreciation.

It’s all a hoax and this toon captures it. the hoax deniers are the only ones that have issues with being reminded of it…

    He’s not a dog, he’s a fox….

It’s all related. I was reading an article yesterday that most of the Hawaiian islands are in the midst of the worst and longest drought in their recorded history. The article stated that the immediate cause was an especially strong El Nino. They didn’t posit further from there, but one of the predictions for global warming is that the swings in weather will become more pronounced, with the AVERAGE becoming warmer not every single day being warmer than the next.

    Jeff. LOL.
