I just want to know who he intends to call, and if farting is part of the local dialect.

This is why I lock the keypad of my phone. A couple of times having people call me back because I ‘called’ them got me to do that religiously…

Eeewww! Eeeeewww! That’s so wrong!! I need eye bleach! AAAAUUUGH!!

  4. PeterW Jan 13th 2010 at 06:35 pm 4

Or you could get a flip phone. No worries about any of the buttons but the volume rocker.

It’s very funny as is, but what exactly is he preparing to do in the last panel?

  6. Mark in Boston Jan 13th 2010 at 07:25 pm 6

He’s going to dial the phone the hard way.

  7. turquoise cow Jan 13th 2010 at 07:53 pm 7

Yeah…that would be one of the number one reasons i stick with a flip phone…

    Mark in Boston,
Are you implying he is going to use his Dictaphone?

  9. Jeff S. Jan 13th 2010 at 10:20 pm 9

He’s preparing to extend his antenna.
He’s going to place a loooooong distance call.
He’s not using a soft phone either.

He’s going to reach out and touch someone.

CIDU Bill - Whether on not this comic belongs on the Arlo page - the comments certainly do!

  12. Cidu Bill Jan 13th 2010 at 11:29 pm 12

I was thinking the same thing, Elyrest — and should have thought of it much earlier.

I stick to a flip phone myself. Ended up having to get an MP3 phone I didn’t really want because it was the only flip available. The rest were bulky ugly keyboad phones and touch screen sliders.

Gotta admire his sense of experimentation, at least.

Reminds me of yet another old joke.

Madam of a house of ill repute answers the doorbell, opens the door and looks around, finally looks down and sees a man with no arms and no legs sitting on the welcome mat. “Carry me in, I need some action,” he says. She furrows her brow and asks, “You sure you got what it takes for this place, buddy?” He says, “I rang the doorbell, didn’t I?”

We’ve all heard of “butt dialing,” but this?

What gets me is that this is just so out of character for Jeremey’s dad. So is tomorrow’s Zits strip going to feature Mom and Dad sitting at the breakfast table cooking up something in a spoon held over a candle??

  17. Scott Jan 14th 2010 at 12:54 pm 17

I never called anyone unintentionally with my old flip phone, but I do have lots of pictures and videos of the inside of my pockets. And who puts a phone in a back pocket anyway? If I did it it would get ground to dust inside of a week.

  18. Keera Jan 14th 2010 at 03:37 pm 18

LOL at Bill’s title! Far funnier than the comic! And what Molly #16 said.

Scott #17, I constantly put my work cell in my back pocket when I leave my desk. No dust. My tushy’s too cushy for that. ;-)

  19. Lola Jan 14th 2010 at 04:54 pm 19

So can anybody give me an explanation of this comic that isn’t an Arlo?

  20. Dan Jan 14th 2010 at 08:50 pm 20

I put my phone in my back pocket sometimes so that if/when it vibrates, I’ll be more likely to feel it..

  21. Cidu Bill Jan 14th 2010 at 09:09 pm 21

Maybe it’s just my phone… but I only put it on vibrate once, and when it went off I felt as if my butt was being tasered. And not in a good way.

More on point, I started having this phone call problem as soon as I upgraded from my old flip phone, long before I knew it was a common enough phenomenon to have a name. Or more precisely, my son Aaron had the problem because the phone would dial the first name on my contacts list (easy fix: added a dummy contact “aaa” to my contacts list)
