Yeah, I get the anecdote… but how does it apply here, especially since Arlo seems to be fairly mellow?

yes- I agree I think that the reason he looks mellow here, Bill, is that he has finally stopped doing holiday things (/hitting himself with a hammer) and is having a chance to just sit down.

Ah, but Arlo might be aiming the story at Janis. When Janis stops running around like crazy it makes Arlo feel better because it makes Janis feel better.

Although Arlo is, in fact, fairly mellow, I don’t think he thinks of himself as fairly mellow.

I think Arlo is exactly right: Christmas is more enjoyable when you go crazy getting ready for it. It’s like most things, actually: the more effort you put into it, the more you get out of it.
