Lio is SO sweet and sad

Yeah, of the three, Liõ is my favorite, bittersweet and touches my heart, as my mother passed away several years ago.

If I were to rank them in “Awwww” from first to third, it would be:

    1 Liõ
    2 Garfield
    3 Crankshaft

I love the Garfield and Lio strips - Lio is sadly sweet, and Garfield is cute on Jon’s side, and remarkably nice on Garfield’s.

The Crankshaft is cute on first look, but then the dad’s scowlariffic look in the last panel puts a dent in that. If he were smiling, like in the second*, it’d be golden. Even even of he were just neutral looking, it’d still be fine. But with that look, it looks more like he’s trying to pull her down than steadying her.

    * I don’t read the strip…I assume these are the same characters, yes?

I’m with Kamino. My interpretation of the Crankshaft one is that he is annoyed that he no longer can lift his little girl up. And it does look like he’s trying to pull her down off the ladder. More of a “Oh, poo” than an “Aww”.

The follow-up to the Garfield strip is the first Garfield strip that generated a true LOL moment for me in years.

Keera & Kamino - I looked at the Crankshaft one differently. Maybe it’s because I have a father who can seem grumpy, but really is very sweet that I see Crankshaft as still helping his little daughter. He can’t lift her up anymore, but he can make sure she doesn’t fall forward as she is reaching up to put the angel on the tree. It isn’t anger you see on his face, but concern and worry. He still wants to protect her and about all he can do now is hold onto her shirt. I think it’s sweet and it did make me go awww.

It’s a tough call, Elyrest, because the gif is so small details get lost. I guess one can see it either way.

I agree with Elyrest. At least I hope so. If he’s got to that level of meanness he’s past the grumpy old man phase and now has a mental disorder.

It looks like Crankshaft-of-Christmas-Present is trying to pull her off the ladder.
