Thanks, Kevin A! The only time I sit with my feet on the floor is when I’m eating. The rest of the time, it’s definitely sofa yoga. And whatever perks that come with it for whoever else is in the sofa.

A few things:

- mike offered the same thing I said as his “Possibility 1″ and managed to post before me while I was editing.

- I didn’t look up the strip and decided it was a woman based mostly on the hair (and also the situation; I didn’t think a young man wouldn’t have such a strong opinion on a salesman). In my case, it was more the shirt than the androgynous nose and lower body that made me think it might be a guy.

- In my experience, as many, or possibly many more women sit that way on a sofa than do men. (Although Keera may have accounted for a possible skew in my memory.) I hang out with a lot of barefoot dancing, hand drumming, yoga posturing women; they may be more stretch conscious than most. Maybe it all comes down to who has the lower backed sofas.
(I know that guys sat that way in the old style bleachers a lot.)

I have to agree with paperboy here. I don’t read the comic and I thought it was a guy too. It does look more like a dude pose. You must be pretty cool “dude” Keera.

But cartoonists have to be broad in their depictions for easy understanding, even-gasp!- using stereotypes. That’s a “dude sittin’ on the couch” pose. When you draw everyone with banana noses and you can’t see the body, you gotta give a little thought.

Nothing unfeminine about it … but it’s not a “shy, reserved feminine” pose. It’s assertively female.

I don’t think it has so much to do with who voted in the poll — I think it has to do with what sort of sleazy web site would have hosted it.
