Knit One…

Nor really synchronicity, of course, but several people pointed out that we got a double dose of awful Pearls Before Swine puns yesterday

I wonder what “that noodle incident” was. Not sure I want to know…

BTW, “Knit One” is a terrible pun.

Tim–”the noodle incident” is a reference to a never-seen event in Calvin and Hobbes. There’s at least two strips where Hobbes mentions a mysterious “noodle incident” that got Calvin in a huge amount of trouble, and the mention makes Calvin very defensive. We never know what it is.

Tim, what would be the point otherwise?

i give foxtrot props for trying - i laughed at this just because i recognized it as a PBS pun - but it didn’t seem to work as well as the usual ones in Pearls.
And I’d love to know where/how Pastis comes up with his puns (and their set-up). Crazy stuff, that.

For the slower among us, can someone explain the “knit one” pun?

Knit one, perl two.

I predicted the Pearls punch line when I read the first speech balloon (okay, I didn’t get the “dunk rye”, but Arch, Tina, and “Evita’s” is enough to predict the lyric).
And the Fox Trot one isn’t really a pun — it’s just a tortured set of (almost) rhymes.

Purl two, please. Perl is a computer language.

I agree that as a pun, FoxTrot’s isn’t great, but as an homage, it’s first-rate, especially with the C&H reference in the last panel. Nice!

I immediately thought of the old SCTV skit when I saw the PBS comic.

What can I say? I’m not a knitter. Purl it is, then.

But that thing in Foxtrot isn’t a pun. It’s just a lot of rhyming words that don’t really reference anything.
