It would please me to know how this is a shout-out to Crusader Rabbit as Wikipedia is no help re CR.
Elyrest Nov 30th 2009 at 04:54 pm 2
That’s my question too, Keera.
???
Cidu Bill Nov 30th 2009 at 05:00 pm 3
Wikipedia does have a listing for Crusader Rabbit — though of course if you didn’t grow up watching it, the slowsand reference reference isn’t going to make you smile.
Other than the fact that the F-Minus panel was pretty funny on its own.
Keera Nov 30th 2009 at 05:27 pm 4
Exactly, Bill. Not having grown up watching CR, no reference to it makes any sense. Purple ivy, anyone?
Cidu Bill Nov 30th 2009 at 05:35 pm 5
But Keera, never did I imply that anybody else should care whether this was a Crusader Rabbit reference
Elyrest Nov 30th 2009 at 06:26 pm 6
Bill, I think that we in the peanut gallery might infer that a Crusader Rabbit explanation would be provided if we asked nicely enough.
Pretty please for those of us old enough to remember Crusader Rabbit, but who have filled up a lot of the gray matter with the lyrics from commercials from the 60’s would you give us an explanation of slowsand s it refers to Crusader Rabbit.
Elyrest Nov 30th 2009 at 06:31 pm 7
as it refers to Crusader Rabbit
Elyrest Nov 30th 2009 at 06:32 pm 8
That freestanding s at the end should be an as.
Elyrest Nov 30th 2009 at 06:32 pm 9
Damn Wordpress!
Cidu Bill Nov 30th 2009 at 07:20 pm 10
Nothing all that complicated, Elyrest: Slowsand was just something that endangered Crusader Rabbit and Rags the Tiger once or twice. Far more dangerous than quicksand, so we were told. Fortunately, Rags was able to escape the unescapable when he was offered jellybeans. Nothing could keep Rags from his jellybeans.

Oh, Keera, “as Wikipedia is no help…” Wikipedia is RARELY a help. Look elsewhere for informatiion.
Nicole Nov 30th 2009 at 08:03 pm 12
Bill … any reference to Crusader Rabbit automatically gets you a geezer award
Frank the curmudgeon Nov 30th 2009 at 08:55 pm 13
YOU MEAN IT ISN’T TIGER WOODS INSPIRED ?! ??
Dan Nov 30th 2009 at 09:31 pm 14
But if I’m not mistaken, doesn’t actual quicksand kill slowly anyway? (You sink slowly, anyway.) At least that’s what the movies and comics have taught me.
Cidu Bill Nov 30th 2009 at 09:44 pm 15
True, Dan, but Crusader Rabbit wasn’t known for its scientific accuracy: Precursor to Rocky that it was, a bit of wordplay was all the justification it needed.
Dan Nov 30th 2009 at 10:19 pm 16
Right, but assuming this is actually NOT a nod to CR, it’s a dumb joke that just plain does not work… right?
If it is, then kudos for a fairly obscure reference, no offense CIDU Bill.

I’m 45, and watched more than my fair share of tv as a kid. Never heard of Crusader Rabbit. This means that 45 is not geezer territory, correct?
Cisco (formerly "Curmudgeonly Frank II") Dec 1st 2009 at 11:59 am 19
Annie: Being 60 and having no recall of Crusader Rabbit, seems that a Geezer Award on this one will truly authenticate geezer-hood. And no, at 45 you’ve got a ways to go for geezer.

I’m 58 and did watch it, but don’t remember the slowsand reference - not that I remember all that much of the stuff I saw when I was that young. I’m definitely going to watch it on youtube. There do seem to be Crusader Rabbit DVDs available, but they are short and relatively expensive.
Todd Dec 1st 2009 at 05:57 pm 21
But, if it’s slowsand, wouldn’t you be able to just walk out of it?
Dan Dec 1st 2009 at 06:09 pm 22
Well no, the problem isn’t that it’s sucking you in slowly, it’s that its suction is so strong that you can’t move through it. It’s like swimming in paste. I assume, anyway.
Mark in Boston Dec 2nd 2009 at 01:08 am 23
It’s just as likely the cartoonist thought he was the first person ever to think of slowsand.
Cidu Bill Dec 2nd 2009 at 01:28 am 24
Mark in Boston, I’m sure Tony really did have no idea that slowsand was first made famous (?) in a now-obscure 50-year-old cartoon; after all, how many people remember Crusader Rabbit anyway?
Harise Dec 2nd 2009 at 07:18 pm 25
Crusader Rabbit was one of my earliest tv memories, I only remember that it was on and the name, but not the plots. There was that tiger. And I’m 57. as it happens, geezers are a lot older than that these days. push’m back push’m back wayyyyy back.
