Not nice to put not nice words into other’s mouths…even if they are just characters in a comic strip!

I think of it less as putting words in their mouths than “translating.”

You nailed it, Bill. I;m waiting for Dean to put them in a mud pit.

Other possible words:
“tramp”
“prude”
“hussy”
“control freak”
And then there is the ever-popular c-word that could be said by either.

yellojkt, I figured “bitch” was one they could both use.

I like how Mom has segued from worrying that Toni is going to leave Brad to treating her like she already has.

What’s sad is when Toni was introduced, I kind of agreed with Luann’s mom about Toni’s apparent shallowness, but Toni (and Brad) have had some really good character development over the last couple of years. I thought Nancy (the mom) was unbelieveably rude during the dinner while Toni seemed to be making every attempt to bond on some level with her. Your choice of words was very appropriate, at least relative to the mom.

@ CIDU BILL -
Is the “Bitch” spoken or just thought?
Did you edit/insert “Bitch” into the balloons ?
buzz Nov 29th 2009 at 11:34 pm 9
In the words of Mills Lane: “LET’S GET IT ON!”
Elyrest Nov 29th 2009 at 11:37 pm 10
Frank the curmudgeon - CIDU Bill edited it. In the original they both just said “Bye”.

@ELYREST - Tx. I don’t follow the strip.

Mom’s square word balloon does clearly suggest that she’s thinking something like your word, but Toni’s word balloon is round, and she has a kind-of sad expression on her face; I think she’s sad that Brad’s mom has such a low opinion of her. On the other hand, in real life, Toni would eventually dump Brad for Dirk or someone like him.
Mom had twenty boyfriends? I don’t even think the girls from Friends racked up that many conquests. And we are talking the eighties now. What’s that make mom? (When did I catch up in age with cartoon parents?)

Thinking in comic strips is indicated by the concentric circles going from the thought cloud to the, uh, thinker. Square word balloons are about the same as the round ones.

I know she’s speaking, but, in the original comic, she’s not saying what she’s thinking. I think the square word balloon suggests an ice cube. Toni’s word balloon is round, so isn’t hiding a veiled insult.
