My Pie
Cidu Bill on Nov 1st 2009
Mike Kruger: First I didn’t get two girls and a cup, now I don’t get 33 portholes and a pie.
Laurie: Is the joke just that the pie fell out the porthole, because she forgot the portholes didn’t have windowsills like kitchen windows do? Speaking of which, has anyone ever really seen anyone cool pies on a windowsill? Wouldn’t a pie on a windowsill just be a smorgasbord for birds, bugs, and squirrels?

I dunno, it made me laugh. What’s more terrible than losing a possession off the side of your cruise ship, than to lose a pie you presumably spent all morning baking?
“I’ll just open up this little porthole window and smell the fresh OH GOD NO THE PIE!!”

She baked her pie in her stateroom? She had access to the galley?

Well, there’s the pie-on-the-windowsill scene in the movie “Bad Company”. . . . .

Can you even open the portholes on cruise ships? The one cruise I took we had an inside cabin, so I don’t know. And there dang sure wasn’t any room for a kitchen.

The portholes on a ship have no windowsills. Even if they did, you couldn’t open the window to get at them. Even if you could, the rooms on a ship are small and do not have counter space to make a pie, nor an oven to bake it in.
I think all these together are why it’s funny.

She should have kept her pie hole closed.

A half-baked joke all round really….

It wouldn’t happen because portholes are round but pi r squared?

if pies didn’t routinely cool on windowsills, then half of the Henry comics would make no sense… oh wait!

No, portholes don’t open. Some staterooms have balconies, but not this one. And the galley for a cruise ship is in the middle, without any windows. (I’ve toured one.) So this comic is not exactly tracking reality.

it’s nothing to do with baking one, I think, it’s just a butterfingered slob dropping a pie where it can’t be retrieved.
I know, cause I am one.
