I mean, at least when Tom Batiuk called his readers ignorant poopyheads

he went through the
pretense of incorporating it into a storyline and writing a “punchline.” And, you know,
most readers knew what the hell he was referring to. This is just… bizarre. And not in a good way.
Update: I’ve had to delete a number of posts disrepectful of Mr. McEldowney’s work, critical of his gay and sexual themes, and complaining that he over-uses Thorax. Okay, I agree about Thorax, but that’s not the point here. I like 9 Chickweed Lane, and I appreciate the man’s talents.
My only issue here is that I’ve never seen a cartoonist call his readers imbeciles before, even in the face of much more overt criticism (granted Johnny Hart was convinced his critics were going to Hell; but then, he apparently
believed everybody but himself was going to Hell), and I’m curious to know what set him off and what was going through his mind when he thought this was a good idea.

“Disney, which owns the copyright for Snow White and the Seven Dwarves…” I think not, Fox News (their story). Disney does own the rights to their specific cartoon images of Snow and her little pals, though, so the question here is whether Australia’s Jamieson’s Raspberry Ale label is too close to this

Just for the record, the first 12 members of the CIDU jury to cast votes ruled 8-4 in favor of the defense. Or, I guess, the defence.

Christine Gilmore Eubanks: One was on the Chron’s site, one on GoComics. I’m assuming that the Chron thought the original was too creepy, but I think they’re both creepy…

My guess here is that this is a family of m&m’s and Mr. Deering didn’t want to run afoul of trademark laws. I could be wrong, though.

Yeah, it’s not really all that impressive; but these were back-to-back on my Houston Chronicle page, and at 1:30 in the morning it was enough to amuse me.

My best guess is that 1, 2 and 3 look the most alike so it seems odd that she’d be undecided between 2 and the very-dissimilar 4 — but I don’t consider that a particularly good guess…

You know, I really have to agree with Jeremy on this one: As a wise man once said, “Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me — you can’t get fooled again.”

This was sent to me for the Ewww Files. Personally, while I could feel my arteries harden just from reading this, I’m not sure the amount of butter used really qualifies as “ewww” — but more importantly, what’s supposed to be the funny here?

Just wondering here… Why would the kids be tadpoles, unless they were conceived after the divorce (and of course even then it would be problematic)?

I think this just cries out for a fourth panel where Lizzie clobbers John with a frying pan.

Just wondering… Why is this specific scenario taken for granted by both Hi and the garbage man. Not that I particularly see the gag here in any case. Actually, if I were Hi, I’d be less concerned that one of the neighbors had a divorce lawyer’s business card than the fact that the garbage man sifts through everybody’s garbage thoroughly enough to find that business card.
