Ok, both this comic and the come JohnD linked to are both CIDUs for me. Is the joke somehow related to Twitter or something?

He’s holding a portable computer thingy so he can tweet.

Um, ok then. You’d think that if what he’s holding is that important though, the artist would make sure to clearly distinguish it as a portable computer or something. I thought that that was a candy bag.

It’s funny because any use of the word “tweet” is witty and topical.

I agree with JohnD’s link. If Twitter (or Facebook) has ever lead to a funny joke in the comics, I have yet to see it. And as Telesam noted, if this one was ever going to have a chance, it would have needed better artwork.

I agree that this is a case of the artist just throwing in a reference to a random current trend… particularly since kids are not exactly in the tweeting demographic- no way any child wants to be tweeted more than they want candy. Also, if he is trick or tweeting, why does he still have that candy bucket?

Too bad there isn’t a well-known word “twick”.

I think The Joy of Tech did the joke better. http://www.geekculture.com/joyoftech/joyarchives/1311.html

Ok, the Dean Booth link is a lot funnier now that I realize it is referring to Twitter.

Would be better if it said, “Candy, now, or I Tweet about this house to all my friends, and you will be egged, papered, and otherwise vandalized.” (It’s blackmail.) At least, that’s what I got from it.
