The way it is laid out, the joke is that you don't know what they are arguing about till the last panel. BTW -- living with three cats I would not be so sure that Edda did put the cat in the pumpkin. My cats will often curl up in small confined spaces ... admittedly they might not choose a pumpkin because of the mess -- but I wouln't put it toally passed them.
