    The Hayride O’ Thrills is so unthrilling that it stuns the little tykes, and the rest of the kids say no thanks. A commentary on today’s overprotective schools?

    I think the Hayride of Thrills made them all so dizzy that they might just throw up. Or possibly terrified that they would crash. (No seat belts in the back of the pickup!) My favorite part, through, is that the truck goes VOOM one way and MOOV the other way. (My second favorite part is that we get to see how long Miss Bloom’s hair is when it’s down from that enormous bun.)

    this would have been funnier if the kids were sitting in the same order afterwards, even though the truck faces the other way.

    My difficulty was that the kids’ faces had not changed much at all, because two of them are already googly-eyed in the first panel. Giving all three “normal” eyes to start out with would have helped.
    Thanks to Gg83 for pointing out the “MOOV”, which I missed entirely the first time around.

    That doesn’t say “MOOV”, it’s just the back-side of “VOOM”.

    @ Powers - yes, it’s clear that it’s just the “other side” of “VOOM”, but the effect is still clever and noteworthy.

    Everyone got sick from the dizzy hayride - including the truck. Kinda lame, but kinda all there is.

    That’s a MOOV either way if you follow the way the truck is going. I believe the joke is either that the truck went around more than once, but it only looks like one cycle, or that the kids were supposed to be backwards, but the artist forgot the truck was also drawn backwards. They are, however, facing the other way now.

    When I was a kid, we used to go on a hayride every Halloween, and that’s all it ever was. Sit on a trailer while the tractor drives around a field.

    Stupifyingly boring, although for some reason it was supposed to be fun.

    Umaike-You should try my hayride. We have bumps and hills and enough mud that I’ve actually been know to get stuck on occasion. It’s so much fun people regularly wait around and go again! Fun for all ages.
