Columbus Day Arlos

An Arlol:

Nicole: I have no doubt that Brian Basset meant this in a totally innocent way. But the bedroom eyes in the second panel and the kissing in the third gives this comic a sexual undertone that I can’t help but carry through to the whole comic. So I would like to award this an unintentional Arl-ewwwww.

Let me add “CIDU” to this one: “I did what I had to do”?? -Bill

Nicole: LOL. I suppose if you wanted to REALLY stretch it, it could be an Arlo — but that is an afterthought

And personally… I’d go with “Arlo” on this one -Bill

For Adam: He got lonely sleeping alone in his bed, so the kids slept in bed with him. When one of my parents went on an overnight trip, we’d all pile into their king-sized bed for a family slumber party with the parent that was home.

    1. Uh, I’m pretty sure that’s not the worst part.
    2. Kara’s got it. I also got a chuckle out of the response in panel 3. My take was that his reason for not being able to sleep was having 2 kids jumping around in the bed.
    3. I can identify with that unfortunately.

There was also a “throwaway” panel for the “Baby Blues” strip (which doesn’t seem to appear in on-line versions) that strives to “de-Arlo” the strip. It shows the parents jumping up and down on the bed like little kids.

Which made it even more “Arlo” for me…

It can be very difficult to get kids to sleep alone once they start sharing a parents bed. “I did what I had to do” is because Adam set a precident by allowing the kids to sleep in his bed while his wife was away.

The CIDU part for me, is why is she SO willing to have the kids in bed when clearly she and Adam were becoming frisky ?

    Nicole-

Maternal instincts for a young mother overrides nooky instincts, especially when she’s been away from her brood for a week.

Is SMBC even Arlo-eligible since it is a web comic and therefore doesn’t have to sneak its anyting past an editor?

Blinky, the Arlo Page is for comics I don’t want on the mostly-family-friendly main page. Since I wanted to list this as a LOL, I had to shunt it over. I know, it does seem kind of arbitrary sometimes.

Clowns toot their own horns. Unsatisfied partners.

Blinky - to be more specific, the Arlo Award is for sneaking stuff past an editor. The Arlo Page is for any and all “adult” stuff.

As soon as I saw Baby Blues on Sunday, I knew it was gonna wind up here. My Arlo thought was not an “after”, either. :)

If SMBC were Arlo-eligible, every SMBC comic would be an Arlo: that’s the whole point of the strip. :)

Lihtox, I thought the point of SMBC was to show up anywhere in CIDU at least once a week.

  13. Todd Oct 14th 2009 at 03:30 pm 13

Showing up on CIDU once a week isn’t SMBC’s point, but it is their main way of getting new readers.

I don’t think it’s fair to Arlo and Janis to name the NSFW page for them. Sure they can be a little risque, but much of what gets put on the Arlo page is almost pornographic and often offensive. You should call it the SMBC page.
