Ummm… Yes, in fact limericks are poetry…

Pinny: I understand that the turtle is referring to 5- and 1-dollar bills. But wouldn’t it be just as valid to refer to coins and give Washington 25-to-1 odds over Lincoln?

Nicole: Perhaps I have a sick twisted mind — I have been told as such, but to me it appears that Obama is getting ready to give congress a proctology exam

Janice Rey: Definitely an EWWW for me – but I have to give Conley credit for the expression on Bucky’s face in the third panel.

Usual John: I’m worried that, although I do find this Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal disturbing, I would probably find it even more disturbing if I understood it better.

My glasses broke yesterday. More precisely, the tiny screw holding the frame around the right lens fell out and disappeared. So I drove over to LensCrafters , and the girl there asked me whether I had the screw, I said I didn’t, and she said they could fix it for me right away, adding “It’s five dollars for a screw.”
I somehow managed not to ask “The same as in town?”

Timothy Carignan: Okay, I give up. What kind of answer was he going for? For once, the dog seems the more intelligent and articulate.

So… Was anybody’s kid exposed to Obama’s speech today and come home a gay, socialist Kenyan? My son’s school, which originally offered concerned parents the option of sparing their children from having to listen to the speech, changed their minds and banned the speech altogether.
Today’s civics lesson, kids: School policy should be set based on the fear of upsetting a vocal minority, even if that minority doesn’t even offer a rational explanation of their concerns.

So what is that guy doing in the first panel, tweeting about the wedding using a telegraph?

So I go to pick up my son and his two friends, and they’re sitting on the curb in this classic pose

and I tell them they look just like the Little Rascals and six eyes look at me as if I’m speaking in tongues.

No, it’s not just you, it’s apparently down for everybody. They don’t seem to have shared an explanation with anybody, but it’s a safe bet they know it’s down and they want it back up even more than we do.

If anybody has expertise in this sort of thing, I’d appreciate some suggestions:
My brother apparently picked up a computer virus or trojan that accesses his Yahoo Mail account and sends spam to people in his address list (the spam includes an .exe link). He uses a Mac 98% of the time and typically insists that his Mac can’t possibly have this sort of problem. Working under the premise that this is true, I told him to shut down his PC, since the virus/trojan can use it to do its work even if he rarely uses it himself.
I’m working under the assumption that the problem has to be with the computer and can’t be with, say, a Yahoo Mail account itself.
Is he safe as long as he only uses his Mac? Is this the sort of thing an anti-virus program could fix? Does he need something else? Might reverting his PC to an earlier restore point help?
Thanks.

Can anybody recommend a good one? The more-or-less-default Wordpress.com Stats has never worked on my site, and ShortStat suddenly stopped working last month. Either that or this site’s gotten exactly 0 pageviews since early August, and I think that’s unlikely.
All I’m really looking for is a simple headcount.

Y’all were pretty evenly divided between sending this to me as an LOL and sending it to me as an Ewww, so I figured I’d post it midway between the Ewww and LOL updates:

I got a message from my son’s high school this afternoon assuring me that he would not be forced to watch Obama’s speech next week, and that the school would provide an alternative educational program for all students whose parents opted them out of watching the speech. I understand this sort of thing is going on in schools all across the country.
Is there any explanation for this other than mass insanity? I could understand it if Obama were intending to ask children to tell their parents to support his health care reform, or suggest they go through their mothers’ pocketbooks and send him all those little pieces of green paper with presidents’ pictures on them… but apparently he’s only going to offer a pep talk about working hard in school.
Just the sort of underhanded thing you’d expect from a native-born Kenyan!
Does anybody sincerely think this is controversial? And if so, why not just follow with an opposing viewpoint such as a clip from Ferris Bueller?

From AP: Guest: Many wept during Jackson’s Calif. funeral
See, not only is it news that people wept at a funeral, but as responsible journalists, AP even found somebody to attribute this fact to.
