Ewww Hat Trick

Rasheed: Between today’s (Wednesday the 30th) Family Circus, Fast Track, and Rhymes with Orange, this is probably the grossest day of my Houston Chronicle comics page NOT involving the Argyle Sweater!

I find today’s Overboard more eww worthy than the Fast Track pig one.

Why is the bottom one an Ewww. Isn’t it obvious he brought dough-nuts.
Or maybe fresh baked cookies to share. Or biscuits.

What’s so ewww-ish about the pigs?
furrykef Oct 1st 2009 at 02:40 am 4
I don’t think any of these are eww-worthy. The first one’s kinda icky, but really, it’s just dirt. And Jeffy’s cluelessness.

And Jeffy’s 3-year-old butt.

I find the pig one an apt metaphor. I recently went wireless on my old pentium 3, which had only two USB ports. This necessitated me having to share one between my Ipod and my printer. Not a good arrangement. So I promptly went out and bought one with 9 USB ports!

My first impression of the FC was “Jeffy’s working on his Yakuza tats?”
Dustin Oct 1st 2009 at 08:38 am 8
I don’t get the pig one… Nor do I understand why it’s an eww.
Morris Keesan Oct 1st 2009 at 08:54 am 9
Its Justme, how often do you print something from your iPod, or even print something while your iPod is connected? Part of the nature of USB devices is that they can be easily removed and reconnected.
(And, unless you were looking for an excuse to buy a new computer, wouldn’t it have been easier and cheaper to buy a multiport USB hub?)

I wholly agree none of them individually are Ewwworthy. It’s just that the combined effect made my morning Cheerios less cheery. Nothing I want to see first, second, or third thing during breakfast. Fortunately Argyle was tame, but I was dreading scrolling down to it in anticipation soley on reputation.
I don’t remember when HC dropped Overboard, but I haven’t really read it since.

I think the pig one is kind of an “awww” not an “eww.” I also went to the state fair last week and enjoyed looking at the newborn pigs.

@Morris - quiet, my wife will hear you. Let’s keep my motivation out of it, please.
In this day and age, inconvenience is unbearable. It was inconvenient for me to unplug my printer so I could plug in my Ipod. ‘Nuff said.

Morris, Its Justme: I’ve got you covered.

Considering that some USB things (like flash drives and iPods) can’t just be yanked out, I find plugging and unplugging them to be a bit annoying/delaying. I love the piglets as a metaphor for this. Not a eww at all. Neither is Family Circus, though I at first thought Billy was covered in hair.

Oh, might as well add Dilbert here too.

Amusing since Get Fuzzy did a beach sand/kitty litter joke recently with a similar payoff.
Its Justme Oct 1st 2009 at 02:46 pm 16
lol - a tiny newspaper!
Mark M Oct 1st 2009 at 04:05 pm 17
It’s funny that Rusty linked the Dilbert from yesterday because I actually thought about sending it in, but for a different reason. It seems like “cutting back in a bad economy” is a common theme for the comics these days. But I can’t figure out how a recession hurts someone who is still employed, like Alice in that strip. If anything, wouldn’t vacations be more affordable (less demand, price goes down)?

The company has forced the employees to take a cut in pay, I believe.
9 usb ports? But they always come in pairs. The tenth one must be used by a flash card reader?
Why would anyone have 5 flash drives plugged in?
Rusty Oct 1st 2009 at 06:15 pm 19
Two words - RAID array.
Just kidding, that’s a dumb idea. Some of those USB devices should have cords, also one of them might be a bluetooth reciever

Jeffy is the offspring of Geena Davis and
Jeff Goldblum of EARTH GIRLS ARE EASY fame. He’s been sitting in a tub of NAIR.

And here is our friend Dean’s contribution

I have no idea Todd. But that’s what I have - 5 in front, 4 in back. Not all for flash drives. My mouse, printer, keyboard, and other things use the USBs also. I fear I’m showing my computer illiteracy here.
Dustin Oct 2nd 2009 at 08:27 am 23
@Mark. It’s tough to take vacations when you know that there are lists being compiled, and that taking a vacation could get you put on that list, whether it’s because someone doesn’t think you’re working hard enough or because no one noticed that you were gone…
