trikly - that is not his wife it’s his roommate. He’s gay and the other guy in the first panel is his boyfriend. This has nothing to do with cavemen, dominance or subservience. He’s a little fussy and just wants to keep his carpets clean.

But what is funny about a guy acting like an egotistical jerk, thinking he can just carry wife around like that? The house, and, therefore, the carpet, is as much hers as it is his.

It doesn’t help that carrying some one, especially in such a compromising position, is considered to make them subservient. Let’s watch a play for dominance from the stone ages. Funny!

The “Cecil Bicycle” joke made guffaw. I was once in the woods with my father and brother when one of them jokingly asked how the shagbark hickory got its name (which is actually a pretty funny throw away line if you know what that type of tree looks like). Riffing off of each other they spent 30 minutes detailing the history of Jebediah Shagbark who was a scout on the Lewis and Clark expedition, an amateur botanist first credited with the discovery of the tree…

Your (very polite) disagreement here is sort of a recapitulation of what started the conflict in the Chickweed apartment. Her roommate Seth (the big guy) cleaned or replaced or installed carpeting (I forget), and created a no-shoes-inside rule. Edda’s defiance led to the pictured situation.

OK, does this disgust limit itself to inside households? Because if these people, Canadian or otherwise, are taking off their shoes before entering shopping malls, grocery stores, schools, movie theaters, restaurants or any of the dozens of other places that constitute being “indoors,” then I am the one who would be disgusted.

@MoWatt - wearing outdoor shoes indoors is disgusting to a lot of people. If you ever visit a Canadian household, please remove your shoes.
