The Charles Manson one had me LOL. In all a good bunch this week Bill.

I might not have completely gotten the mermaid one had it not been for remembering the striking lemon-as-deodorizer scene in “Atlantic City”.

    the tequila-summit was hysterical!

Manson should move to the EWWW page -
i think any thing Manson is just creepy!

I think the Manson Luv Is comic would have worked better if another
more generic name had been used.

There is a new Fox series this fall called Glee about a high school glee club.

    They have awesome videos.

  6. Kamino Neko Aug 2nd 2009 at 06:08 pm 6

Manson was a bad choice for that strip. Since, he, you know, didn’t DO that stuff.

  7. Norm Aug 2nd 2009 at 06:43 pm 7

    @Kamino Neko

Okay — Love is … carving a swastika on your forehead. Gee, that makes is SO different. He was a perfect choice for that strip.

  8. Kamino Neko Aug 2nd 2009 at 06:50 pm 8

No, he wasn’t - he’s famous for murdering a half dozen people in an attempt to incite a race war. That’s a completely different kind of crazy than stalking someone out of a misguided claim of love.

  9. Norm Aug 2nd 2009 at 07:14 pm 9

Granted. I still thought it was a twistedly funny/awkward/weird strip. I did not read it as a stalker strip but as a “Manson in prison retrospective ruminating” strip. Whatever.

I’m on the same page as Kamino Neko–Manson is known for his attempts to influence and have power over others, not because of anything even remotely resembling love or romance. Really, he seems to be a pretty asexual figure.

  11. Charlene Aug 2nd 2009 at 08:02 pm 11

Committing some of the most gruesome mass murders in American history and putting the entire country into fear =/= being a weirdo stalker. (And he’s not at all well-known for carving a swastika into his head: he’s well-known for butchering innocent victims.)

The artist should have gone with Hinckley. Too soon?

As an asexual person, I really don’t think Manson is asexual at all. I mean come on, he was constantly impregnating his female followers. Maybe “Love is seducing rich girls to do your nefarious bidding” would work better here. I think they just went with Manson because his name is synonymous with “crazy”.

Why were they looking for beer in the freezer?

  14. Mitch4 Aug 3rd 2009 at 08:10 am 14

It could be a mini-fridge mounted above the bar?

  15. Kate C Aug 3rd 2009 at 10:45 am 15

I meant asexual as in unlike John Hinckley or Ted Bundy, he isn’t really known for his attitudes toward and perceived relationships with women. When I think of Manson, a lot of stuff come to the forefront before I think about him impregnating women (granted, I don’t know much about Manson). I’m just saying: I think the punchline is a little lazy. I think it would be funnier with a non-famous name; the joke still comes across.

In honor of the first cartoon:

“Beer; now there’s a temporary solution.” Homer Simpson

Manson should have been put down like the rabid cur he is.
After cleaning fish, it’s an old standby to wipe your hands with a lemon slice to remove the fishy smell.
More risque is that fish is often served with a lemon slice.

love the XKCD strip…. for those unaware, the first 3 panels refer to the black harvard professor who was arrested in his own home after a neighbour saw him and his (also black) chauffeur force the lock on his door when the key jammed. the rest is what should have happened after…
