No joke. Just man contemplating his own mortality.

He’s using a metal detector to find “treasure” washed up on shore. Instead, he finds another metal detector and the remains of its owner, which would make one question whether this is really a good idea after all. There was a similar joke in “the other coast” a few months back, but without the (morbid) skeleton.

Yep, Janice has it. Guy with metal detector finds the remains of another guy who likes to use a metal detector.

    This comic drips with irony

While on the beach a large wave came in and the undertow dragged the man out to sea. Tide and time had their way and he was swept away to the Amazon river where piranah’s stripped his bones of his flesh. The tide turns and brings his skeleton, still grasping the metal detector back to the original beach, where it is washed up on shore and subsequently burried by the wind blown sand. The man looking at the skeleton has unknowingly slipped through a time warp and while scouring the shoreline for treasure, his metal detector is set off by the metal detector that is now burried. He digs furiously, thinking that he has found his fortune, only to find that he is looking his future in the eyes.

I’m with Janice on this one. (But I like Nicole’s explanation better.)

I am actually with Janice as well — I just HAD to write something :-P

Nicole has officially blown my mind…

Nicole scares me. She reminds me of myself and everyone thinks I’m crazy.
    LOL Quite an imagination!

My job here is done (I ride off into the sunset on My Little Pony)

The skeleton dug a hole and got trapped by the incoming tide.

    Metal detector detector

Nobody seems to be thinking like me on this strip. I took it that the man with the metal detector was looking for treasure but when he dug it up, he only found the remains of somebody else who was doing the exact same thing. This would indicate that this person didn’t find treasure either. He/she apparently spent a lot of time trying to find treaure because he/she died before he/she was successfull. This should be taken as a sign that this treasure hunter should search elsewhere.
P.S. This reminds me of an old Far Side strip where 2 people are crawling through the desert searching for water and they come across a camel who is also crawling through the desert dying of thirst.
P.P.S. Either the person who died was a nudist or there were looters present who for some reason were not interested in meatal detectors.

Nicloe, you’re crazy. Sexy crazy, that is.

Though I do think seawater does a pretty good job at breaking down bones and a skeleton wouldn’t remain in one piece if the tissues were dissolved and it were washed around by water flows.

What I don’t understand is why everyone is overlooking the major score this guy has made. Normally you’d expect the guy to find a few coins and a bunch of old cans. Here he’s found a metal detector. Those things aren’t cheap. If there are any gold fillings in the skeleton, so much the better. If the skeleton is a gansta rapper, he’ll get enough gold out of the teeth to buy himself a nice car.

Rainey, I’m thinking like you, which is why this wasn’t a CIDU. The thing is, underneath the skeleton with a metal detector, is another skeleton with a metal detector. It’s skeletons with metal detectors all the way down! (I seem to like typing “skeleton with metal detector”.)

I’m too literal to find this funny. Why is the skeleton holding it’s metal detector upside down? How did the skeleton die? Did he get hit by a car? (I first took the ocean to be a road.) Why is the beach so empty?

Would you believe, with the kid this weekend, the expression “to find yourself” just came up? I’m figuring somehow the skelleton was trying to “find himself” with a metal detector. What happened afterward, I have no idea.
