Today, the John McCain campaign and the Republican National Committee apologized to Jackson Browne for using (without permission) his song “Running on Empty” in television commercials last year criticizing Obama’ s energy ideas.
Now, what I’m wondering is… Is this whole “copyright” concept a lot newer than I thought it was? Did the McCain campaign not get the memo? I mean seriously, how is it possible that nobody involved in the filming of the commercial knew that you can’t just appropriate somebody else’s song for a commercial? And have they all moved on to jobs with American Apparel?

I think most blogs get their share of computer-generated comments that feature generic praise for their sites but which of course are intended only to plant links to the “sender’s” site. I was amused by one of them I received this morning: “I found your blog on google and read a few of your other posts. I just added you to my Google News Reader.” Boy, did they dial the wrong number!

Laurie sent this for the Ewww Files, but suggested I use it to start a “Yikes!” category. My first thought when I saw this last night was that we need a “What the HELL were they thinking???” tag. Also, is there even a joke here? I mean, even by B.C. standards?
