Tom Knapp sent these two from Saturday’s newspaper. Normally I wouldn’t see much synchronicity in two Benjamin Franklin gags on Independence Day — the connection seems farly obvious — but two different Franklin-as-horndog gags definitely qualify.

Well, he was a horndog, so: it’s historical!

I lol’ed at both of these. Especially the Frank and Ernest one.

The first one is a CIDU for me. I’m aware of the “early to bed, early to rise” saying, but I’m not sure how it would be used as a pickup line.

Heather, I hope you’ve been enjoying viewing my etchings. (Serving our ale and repast.) But our evening should perhaps proceed to the bedroom now. After all, early to bed and early to rise makes a person healthy, wealthy, and wise. So let’s go now …

    (nothing personal!)

Heather, I think it’s just a set up for the logic that since going to bed makes one “Healthy, wealthy and wise”, the lady should join him in the sack right now.

It’s likely Ben Franklin was the one “early to rise,” nudge, nudge, wink, wink.

What do you think he would have thought of Clinton, Spitzer, and Sanford ?

Cause and effect or further synchronicity that the History Channel had programs pointing out what a horndog he was.

One of his greatest writings of all time is here: http://swarthmore.edu/SocSci/bdorsey1/41docs/51-fra.html
My personal favorite line is “As in the dark, all cats are grey” and appreciate the Cliff Notes version: “They don’t swell, they don’t tell and they are grateful as hell”
