Yeah, I know you can argue that “fud” is short for “fudge” — but even going back to prehistoric times, nobody has ever shortened the word “fudge” that way. I mean seriously, how lazy would you have to be?
Then again, I’ve seen people abbreviate the seventh month as Jul…

Unless I’m convinced otherwise, this one gets “Hey Geriatrics! Comics!” honors. Most readers under “a certain age” — and Davan — might be aware of who Kunta Kinte was, but that’s a far cry from this particular scene coming immediately to mind.
What ever happened to Roots anyway? Seems like it won all those awards, spawned some sequels, then just disappeared from sight. You’d think it would at least get repeated in syndication somewhere during Black History Month or something…

And some synchronicity (even though Medium Large happens to be a repeat today):

Robert Coplen: I’m calling this a CIHIDU. Comic I hope I don’t Understand. If I do it’s a eww. I am assuming it’s an anteater that is getting too friendly.

To me, it looks like a dog whose… tongue is coming out of its nose?? Made me think of
this, in any case -Bill

Nicole: Is the joke here that all babies look alike and that of course he looks like a young Sean Connery ? Or is that that babies don’t really look like anyone … or is is something else all together?

Nicole:

Somebody else submitted this as a CIDU, then withdrew it a few minutes later after the lightbulb went off. I was sort of leaning toward LOL myself… -Bill
Elyrest: This is a major Ewww. Maybe if they just showed the cat and Grimm, but Mother Goose too?

Although I swore off the Funky Winkerbean strip a couple of months ago, and explained why right here, people have been asking me what’s become of Stuck Funky, the Funkyverse mockery site.
So I found out: Seems the webmaster has been overworked and is in need of some downtime, and will return to active duty soon. The site has not been abandoned.
Discussions of current FW strips continue on the site even without his participation.

Robert: Is this some kind of literary reference? Pop culture? That’s either a refrigerator or a safe, but why it’s blocking the doorway is unclear to me.

Usual John: You can’t see a thing: I would suppose that this would mean nothing too revealing, but why would the older woman look so concerned about that? Is there another meaning this could have? I’m guessing that she’s wearing little or nothing underneath the gown. That would explain Mom’s reaction, but it wouldn’t explain why nobody noticed this while the old lady was fitting her for the gown moment earlier (and who get’s fitted for graduation gowns anyway?) -Bill

At least here in New Jersey, two-hour waits are common; this was not only my experience, but was confirmed by the Verizon driver who came to pick up my modem and cable box after I dealt with two separate 3+ hour waits in the space of less than a week.

Okay, my best guess is that Scott Hilburn drew this in 1959 and he just came across it in the back of his desk drawer.

I’m sort of accustomed to bloggers who come across the CIDU site and then write about how they don’t understand what it is and therefore I and everybody who posts here are poopyheads.
I was particularly amused today when somebody called to my attention a blogger who couldn’t figure out what an Arlo was, tried all manner of acronyms, even Googled the word.
