There was a time when anything with a swear word in the title would never have made it past the censors. If there was no mention of the recession, I would think this strip was about the ongoing trend of allowing more and more “taboo” on television. However, since the current economy is mentioned, this makes me think there may be more to this strip.

    I think it is 2PillsburyDoughBoys1TwistTie.com

No, the economy IS important to this gag.

Because of the recession, TV stations and networks are finding it harder to sell all the space for advertising in their schedules- even in prime time. That has led to some unusual situations such as adds for the amazing sham-wow (or whatever it’s called) and the famous Snuggie airing in prime time, network TV. This may also lead to TV commercials for sleazy websites. Hence this gag.

I doubt the author meant it this way, but it could be read as a jab at godaddy.com (who might sell a domain name such as ^&%$&^%.com). They’ve made a reputation for “racy” ads. I believe they sometimes run commercials that say “the commercial we made is too hot to get past the censors, view it now on godaddy.com…”.

Not a perfect fit, but an interesting coincidence.

Who’s seeing the Hypnobutt ad whilst reading this post?

I am noticing there’s a lot more “racy” dating ads on the side of my screen when I read email, especially Yahoo!, but can’t say I really noticed anything on TV.

Here in Fresno, reruns of the original Star Trek are supported by ads for local telephone chat lines, both straight and gay. And the ads are very risque.

I take this strip as a near-term prediction.

With the dishonest and creepy pitchman of sham and the sham spinoffs in primetime and cashforgold’s sleazy ripoff starring in the Superbowl, !@#&?.com during Seinfeld reruns can’t be far off and !@#&?meupthe@#&?!witha#&?!@.com on the evening news not long after that.

Rasheed: No hypnobutt. Just a very phallic Air Force ad about to penetrate the lillies in an Art Watercolor ad. Maybe I’m imagining the connection.

Have you seen the new commercial for the Schick Quattro for women showing all the different ways women can, uh…”trim their bush”? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WSBXLviPXR8

Eeyore, the Quattro television commercial is quite subtle compared to the print ad:
