Craig M. Bobchin: Talk about blatant. But does anyone draw sexier women than Brooke? (first strip) (second strip)

Okay, unless “stimulus package” is the rabbit’s nickname for a part of his anatomy (there have actually been quite a few “stimulus=sexual stimulation” gags in comic strips lately), I don’t really get this -Bill

Pretty sure it’s a “stimulus package” = genital euphemism joke.

Actually, “package” is a general euphemism for male genitalia in certain Chicago neighborhoods, at least back before I moved to Michigan.

The Rabbit is a type of vibrator. It has an internal part and a part that is shaped like rabbit ears that is meant to stimulate externally.

As to Mr. Bobchin’s question. As much as I like Mr. McEldowney ladies I think I would have to say that the women of Milton Caniff surpase them.

Since I sent it in ….

My take was the Rabbit was making a pun. After telling the porcupine that women who are into politics and finances really dig him — he probably went on to say something like — “because of my big stimulus package”

male genitalia is often referred to as a ‘package’, and what woman would not like a big ’stimulus package’

Grizwell and the porcupine don’t get it, but that is just a set up. If the rabbit had said it it would have been very obvious what he was talking about and risk being censored, but the pun being delivered by the other two characters makes it obscure enough that the censors let it slide — A true Arlo.

There is also, of course, “What the ding dong is a ’stimulus package’…”

Oh … and I was going to send the Pibgorn comic in as well, but it is not (to my knowledge) actually published in a paper. Still, like Craig I thought this one might deserve special dispensation because it is SOOO blatant.

Yes, Frank Cho, (among others) draws sexier women than Brooke.

    Sexier, or just improbably bustier?

  9. Brent Apr 1st 2009 at 12:37 am 9

Frank Cho is a T&A man, Brooke is all legs. Completely different demographics.

  10. Nicole Apr 1st 2009 at 08:19 am 10

    Pibgorn

Sexy is subjective. However I find Brooke’s situations and art very erotic. Where I see some of the other artists mentioned, as being heavy handed. I think this is because Brooke’s sexy is often (but not always) subtle and situational. Frank Cho’s sexy has to do with drawing women with large breasts.

I’ve long thought that Rose is Rose is one of the sexiest women in comics, when she’s wearing her “biker chick” outfit.

Part of what makes it sexy is that it’s such a departure from her usually-drawn personality.

I came here to second Sinfest, only to find nobody’s mentioned it yet.

I didn’t know that about Pigborn, Nicole: I see it’s carried on comics.com, so I extrapolated that it apeared in newspapers.

Obviously if it doesn’t, it doesn’t belong on the Arlo Page (unless of course it’s a CIDU as well)

  14. Daniel J. Drazen Apr 1st 2009 at 10:16 am 14

    Fandango,

Second Sinfest for what? Sexiness (which Monique certainly is)?

  15. Nicole Apr 1st 2009 at 10:39 am 15

Well I think we can all agree that there is nothing about these particular entries that we don’t understand ….

I get Pibgorn from gocomics as well.

While I am not %100 percent sure, I am fairly certain that Pibgorn is an internet only comic. When I have done searches on it no newspaper listings have ever come up.

These are certainly not the only Pibgorn strips that would qualify for an Arlo!!! if it is published in the newspaper, Brooke likes the sex

  16. Pinny Apr 1st 2009 at 10:41 am 16

What’s the name of the last comic (the one with the rabbit)?

  17. Nicole Apr 1st 2009 at 10:53 am 17

The one with the rabbit is Grizwell

  18. Michael Brown Apr 1st 2009 at 11:39 am 18

“But does anyone draw sexier women than Brooke?”

    Uh, yeah.

    Frank Cho.

    Phil Foglio.

    Wally Wood.

do I need to go on?

According to Wikipedia, Pibgorn is an Internet-only comic. It used to run on the United Feature Syndicate site (Comics.com), but the creator (McEldowney) felt restricted (he couldn’t show bare butts, for example) and moved to GoComics in 2007.

  20. Dave Van Domelen Apr 1st 2009 at 11:54 am 20

While it’s “syndicated” online, Pibgorn has not appeared in newspapers since the end of its initial “Christmas-filler” run. In fact, the current format of full sized pages prettu much guarantees it won’t run in any papers.

    Also, more single entendres today.

  21. Usual John Apr 1st 2009 at 02:25 pm 21

Brooke draws the sexiest women appearing in newspaper comics today. If you extend the range to other times or other media, though, competition from artists like Milt Caniff, Will Eisner, and Will Elder, to name only a few, makes for a much tougher field.

  22. Patrick Apr 1st 2009 at 02:54 pm 22

Yeah, I know I mentioned Frank Cho earlier but if I had to vote for “creator of sexiest comic women of all time” my vote would go to Will Eisner. His work is amazing in all areas (not just sexy women).

  23. Mark in Boston Apr 1st 2009 at 03:21 pm 23

Al Capp did sexy women too — Wolf Gal was my favorite.

But are we saying that they drew the sexiest women then, and hardly anybody draws sexy women now? What’s happened to America?

  24. Elyrest Apr 1st 2009 at 04:12 pm 24

“But are we saying that they drew the sexiest women then, and hardly anybody draws sexy women now? What’s happened to America?”

As things have supposedly loosened up we’ve gotten rather puritanical. I’m a female, but even I went Va-Va-Voom over some of the females I saw in comics and cartoons when I was a kid.

  25. Todd Apr 1st 2009 at 04:50 pm 25

Women sexier than Brooke’s? Open the comics pages and pick a comic at random, and I’d say the women there are at least as sexy.

  26. Marshal Apr 1st 2009 at 08:38 pm 26

Judge Parker, Brenda Starr and Apartment 3G also have some pretty women.

I believe one reason there does not seem to be as many strips with beautiful women in them is that a lot of strips seem to have gone to minimal graphics. In fact a lot of the drawing today is just plain bad.

  27. Frank the curmudgeon Apr 1st 2009 at 08:53 pm 27

Morris Keesan - You overlooked Rose’s Mama.

  28. Powers Apr 2nd 2009 at 07:02 am 28

Man, hot comics women? What about Carl Barks, eh? Amiright?

  29. Patrick Apr 3rd 2009 at 03:15 pm 29

After today’s depiction of June in her bikini, it’s clear that Graham Nolan over at Rex Morgan MD does not intend to let anyone have the “draws sexier women than Brooke” title without a real fight.

  30. Patrick Apr 3rd 2009 at 03:22 pm 30

Wait a minute – it’s not Graham Nolan anymore, it’s Paul Ryan. Or somebody. I don’t know – whoever is drawing Rex Morgan these days . . .
