Okay.. If Bucky’s not gay, I don’t get it. If Bucky is gay, I get it but I don’t get it.

    Satchel is so stupid he doesn’t realize the “ghost” is Bucky and he feels the need to save Bucky from the ghost.

    Bucky sleeps in the hall closet. The noise was coming from Bucky’s closet, but Satchel doesn’t make the connection.

    Bucky has a closet that he has claimed as his own. It has nothing to do with being gay. He’s just territorial. He’s telling Satchel to “get out”, but Satchel thinks it’s a ghost. So now he’s going to save Bucky from himself (the ghost).

    What I find most amusing is that Bill’s inability to understand this one echoes the joke itself.

    Or … wait … was that Bill’s intention all along? Is this a meta-joke? Are we commenters all just Satchels ourselves?

    Or did I want you, the reader, to think I thought Bill thought the joke was hard to get, when in reality …ha! Pirandello!

    I love Satchel’s innocence.

    Bucky’s room is the hall closet, and as others have said Satchel is so naive that he doesn’t even realize that Bucky is unpleasent enough to say ‘get out!’ … ergo it must be a ghost

    Satchel has his own bedroom. All Bucky has is a closet. It doesn’t seem fair, but I guess what else are you going to do in a two-bedroom apartment?

    I took it that Bucky was messing with Satchel by deliberately imitating a ghost to spook him.

    That’s Bucky, always finding new ways to mess with Satchel.
