Not creepy - teens get sooooo embarrassed by the ‘rents…sometimes it’s just to mess with them & do something that really embarrasses them! We do!

Nothing creepy about it — Mom knows how embarresing it would be to have her picture on the wall, and decided to tease the boys

Actually, what’s really creepy is that those brushstrokes will still be visible under the layer of extra paint, when the light catches the wall the right way. It takes MANY coats of paint to smooth out something like that.

It’s not the message itself I was commenting on, but the flirty, big-lipped self-portrait that accompanied it. Which seems to be why Bran and TJ reacted to it the way they did.

You realize that the mom, Nancy DeGroot, was “accidentally” walked in on by TJ a week or so back. And that nobody in the house, papa Frank DeGroot included, seem to have any problem with that (in fact, a few days later there was a highly suspect strip where he he seemed to be encouraging her to let TJ continue hanging around). And that she and her hubby have been shown in flashback as a sterotypical 1960s hippe couple , not to mention they attended a “Couples Camp” a few years back and that since then she’s gone to have herself checked out for HPV.

At the very least, Nancy DeGroot is a cougar.

What I’m wondering about — and what I’m surprised no one else is wondering about — is that she put so much effort into such a quick and cheap joke.

anon, there was also the mock-flirtation between TJ and (16-year-old) Luann. Definitely a weird sexual vibe going on with TJ and this family.

What’s creepy is the mom’s uncanny ability to make an incredibly accurate self portrait with a fat brush and a roller. Has she ever been mentioned to have artistic talents?

I have been commenting on the sexual aspects of LUANN for weeks at Comics.com. It’s the only reason to keep reading this strip. Outside of the strips we see, you KNOW that there’s a ton of hot stuff goin’ on: TJ & Luann, TJ & Nancy DeGroot, Elwood & Luann, Tiffany & _______ [fill in the blank], &c.

I agree that this portrait is a lot of work for a brief, painted-over joke, it was energy channeled from Nancy D.’s incredible lust for TJ. She’s hoping that he would roll HER on that wall.

Nancy’s portrait is big-lipped, because she herself is big-lipped. Will Angelina Jolie’s children find her creepy, too? (Actually, probably, yes.)

The sex vibe is dead-on: if you look carefully at the boys’ reactions. Her son (I assume because I don’t read the strip)is creeped-out, but TJ is just a little embarrassed in the second panel (how to explain to his pal that “your mom has the hots for me”) and in the third panel he’s enjoying the knowledge that this MILF is indeed hot for him.
