I think the “joke” is that when his Mini is a VUS — Vehicle Under Snow — it sort of looks like an SUV.

That is it — it looked like an SUV till it was cleared off

I agree with 1 and 2. Gave me a small chuckle.

What looks like a lovely ice sculpture turns out to be only superficially a lovely ice sculpture.

I wake to that joy almost every morning in the winter.

Oh, I see. I don’t pay attention to types of cars, so this was also a CIDU for me until reading the above comments. At first, I thought this was a reversal of a comic I remember from somewhere where someone goes out to see a car-shaped mound of snow. He dutifully clears off every spot of snow, whittling away further and further until he surprisingly reaches ground! He then quizzically searches around until he spots his car a few feet away and realizes he just dug into a snow mound for hours for no reason. I can’t seem to find it on Google Image Search, but I’m sure it’s out there.

Sorry, living where I do, this is just real life, not a joke. I didn’t think the original mound of snow looked like an SUV, just a car with a lot of snow on it.

I agree that the SUV thing was the joke, but I’m with Powers on this one: That’s what your Mini Cooper would really look like if you left it out in a snowstorm for a couple days.

Monty cleared the snow off his windows so that he could see where he was going but he will still have some trouble because he must drive backwards onto the road.

bAT L: I believe you’re thinking of this commercial for Statoil.

#’s 6/7 is why I submitted this. #5 would have been much funnier.

Statoil is a Norwegian company. Funny that what to me is a typical Norwegian ad got “translated” and shown outside Norway.

  12. Keera Mar 2nd 2009 at 03:50 pm 12

Oh, and I was thinking like #6 and 7, too. I’m glad someone submitted this CIDU. SUVs just aren’t common enough in Norway for me to make that connection.

I think just the first panel alone is funny, ignoring the remainder of the comic.

OK, I missed the size element.

Is size important ? (ducks & runs)

    :)

I was scrolling this page and Larry’s post zipped across the screen. I thought he was saying size only matters in ducks and nuns.

OK, I live where there’s a lot of snow, and we actually
have a MINI Cooper. When there’s a ton of snow, it doesn’t
look like an SUV, it looks like a bump in the snow. Maybe
even a snowdrift. Our Jeep, on the other hand, looks like
a really BIG bump in the snow, so even though I recognized
the MINI in the comic, I didn’t get it.

Chaz Larson: That’s a pretty funny commercial, but I hadn’t seen it before. This was a comic I remember reading from a long time ago. Once the snow was cleared off, there was just plain no vehicle there, but it was an actual lump of snow or snow drift. Most likely a lump of snow that was snowed on. I live in Wisconsin; I know exactly how this is too.

I think that that WAS what Larry said! Ain’t it the truth?
