This is an LOL for me. I do this, particularly with the crowd that I used to have parties with when we were all in our twenties. I’m forty. Now, if you buy the alcohol that you expected your friends to drink then, you will have it in your house for the next six months, or year, or forever. I know one drink is more than enough for me, when I have one at all.

Yeah, I’m with Dave. What’s not to understand? We don’t overindulge the way we used to when we were young. But seltzer is popular, especially if you call it “sparkling water”.
And before posting this I had to google “a little seltzer down your pants” to figure out where the line is from, because my memory is also not as good as it was when I was in my twenties.

Yeah, just don’t party the way we used to. Come to think of it, I never did party the way we used to. . . . also reminds me of a “poem” I heard at a family gathering recently: “I’m a one drink woman; two at the most. Three, I’m under the table, and four I’m under the host.” (This from my nephew’s wife’s grandmother of all people.)

What everybody else said. It’s just not the same being hungover at 40-something as it was at 20-something. Also, by the time you’re this old, you learn to drink more water in between glasses of booze.
@Susan: I LOL’ed at that poem!

Somebody needs to be sure to record an oral history
from Susan T-O’s nephew’s wife’s grandmother. She sounds like a hoot.

I think I’d like to invite Susan T-O’s nephew’s wife’s grandmother over for cocktails.

Ahh, the inestimable Dorothy Parker:
I like to have a martini,
Two at the very most.
After three I’m under the table,
after four I’m under my host.

BTW, just before Christmas, Carrie Fisher’s latest book, a
memoir, was published. It’s title, _Wishful_Drinking_, is
the same as the one-woman show she has been doing for
about year.

I’ve had those parties too, where your old friends don’t drink nearly as much as they used to. Still gotta buy it though, as the anticipation of rip snortin’ time always trumps reality!
