I thought that Arlo was indeed going to feed Ludwig, and was criticizing him for being unthankful, much the way a cook would get annoyed at someone digging in without paying tribute to the one that made the food. Then I saw Arlo eating something out of a bag, and I thought he was eating cat food. That's when my brain stalled out in confusion and I checked these comments for guidance. It has nothing to do with feeding the cat or Ludwig wanting to be fed... he already had food in his bowl. If Arlo actually fed the cat (or even had to add food to the bowl) this joke wouldn't work at all... they both need to go straight to food (in fact, Arlo goes so straight to the cupboard for chips that he only notices what Ludwig did on the way back).
