For those who asked (and will ask): It seems Warners somehow made the big-budget Watchmen film (scheduled for March 2009 release) without taking into account that Fox had previously bought to do so (see article). Well… oops. And now a judge has ruled that Warners can’t release the film without Fox’s approval.

Can’t say I ever wondered; but I do wonder what April’s getting at here.

There is of course the customer service gag (”If you have a complaint, go to Helen Waite”), but I’m not sure why it would apply here.

All month I’ve been hearing commercials about satisfying everybody on your gift list by buying them cell phones, many of which cost under $50. Of course, those <$50 phones come with a two-year service obligation running between $1500 and $2000 each.
The sheer number of radio ads suggests that there are enough people who do buy multiple cell phones as gifts, but what’s the protocol here? You buy somebody a phone as a gift and they’re stuck with a $2000 contract if they ever want to use it (though I don’t imagine the company will send out the phone at all until the contract is signed)? You actually spring for two grand for a gift you thought you be costing you just a few bucks?

John Reiher: Um, there’s 10… chickens? Geese? Swans? Turkeys? On the table. It’s “Seven swans a swimming” and “Six geese a laying” and if it’s the fifth day, it should have been “Five golden rings” not 10 cooked poultry. Beat’s me– but maybe this will help (or not) -Bill

I am not banning XKCD and SMBC from the CIDU site. What I said was, I can see that posting them without their respective alt-text and bonus panels is problematic, since even if they’re irrelevent to the punchline, nobody can be certain they necessarily are. So I’ve deleted all the XKCDs and SMBCs currently in the queue.
Going forward, I will save and use said extraneous material, as I did with this morning’s marshmallow strip.
