I was thinking when I saw this… It might not look very appealing, but at $735 per ounce, that toilet’s going to be worth a s—load of money -Bill

The Frank & Ernest one was old when I was in high school, and a middle aged math teacher told it.
The Obama one is so painfully true, on several levels…

The geometry one is a CIDU for me.

Keera, it’s an ancient and horrible pun. When the acorn grows up it says, “Gee, I’m a tree!”

Thanks, Brian. Childhood is getting to be a long time ago for me. :-/

What’s funny about this F&E is the other guy’s worry. Usually, he just plays straight man.
I used to read it every day when I got the paper, but I haven’t picked it up again. I don’t like puns usually, and this comic is all puns, and I love it. Go figure.

Kaitlyn–I agree. I’ve always really liked the puns in F&E, maybe because they’re usually so rapid fire, I don’t have time to think about them before they’re revealed.

Are they saying that George never cleaned up Bill’s mess? ‘Cause leaving a pile of beer cans and bottles doesn’t seem like George’s style to me, but it does seem like Bill’s. It is typically Texan, but the Bush’s are more Ewing than, well, my family.
I do understand the joke is that he’s cleaning up George’s mess, I just find the figurative portrayal of that mess to be a miss.

Is the baseball one referring to the 3 Strikes law? He struck out, and taking someone hostage isn’t going to make the situation any better?
DSkinner Nov 10th 2008 at 09:59 pm 9
The Ob-ma one is obviously racist!
Frank Nov 11th 2008 at 12:06 am 10
The Obama-Uncle Sam cartoon has a definate racist but who is being the racist? The lefty cartoonist or the nation?

Ok, the Arlo strip is a CIDU for me.
FlyingFish Nov 11th 2008 at 11:43 am 12
Mark: He was playing the old “make you look” joke, but she in fact DID see something while looking up (the ceiling needed a new coat of paint), so his prank backfired.

From the New Yorker caption contest, along the lines of the Existentialist Hearings:

Todd,
George Bush if often portrayed as sort of the slacker/fratboy type who you could imagine having a beer with. So the pile of beer cans seems apropriate. I imagine if they had been making fun of Clinton it would have looked like more of a sex party then a frat party.
Depending on your political leanings you could probably make a similar but less racially charged joke about any politician taking office from the other party. I think most would agree though that the mess left over this time is a bit bigger then usual.
