it’s true, todd, that you could understand and find humor in the basic premise of the joke without knowledge about the goonies. however being as sloth was the ugly brother that was kept hidden away in the goonies, that detail of his character makes the implication a bit stronger if you have that knowledge.

But do you have to know anything about Goonies to get the joke?

There are three brothers who are probably considered “hot” by the teenie-bopper crowd (I don’t know much about the Jonas brothers). So the cartoonist gives them a grotesquely deformed fourth brother.
