Do Tell

Yeah, there are fewer tellers now that there are fewer walk-in customers. Makes sense, I’d say. What’s the gag here?

Three people sent me this one before lunchtime, so I figured I might as well put it online:
Mr. Barnes switched from being the music teacher to being the football coach as a way of increasing his job security, since schools are going to drop their music programs way before they drop their football programs.
Of course the joke would have worked better if Heart and Dean weren’t second-graders, since I’ve yet to come across an elementary school with its own football team (though I wouldn’t be surprised to be told that Texas elementary schools have them). Cartoonists should have a Gag Exchange Program, where if Mark Tatulli has an idea that’s better suited to a high school strip, Archie can use it, and if the Archie writers come up with a storyline too relentlessly grim for Riverdale High, they can pass it along to Westview High.

Okay, first of all this guy looks nothing like Willie Stargell.
But putting that aside… Is there any interpretation of this comic that doesn’t merit the Arlo Award? Continue Reading »

My best guess here is that what we’re supposed to be seeing is Arlo seeing an enormous bird whose shadow covers everything — and that United Media’s new policy of colorizing their comics is at fault for the appearance that only Arlo is under the shadow (though of course I could be wrong).
This is the second day of United Media’s new policy of not leaving well enough alone, and I think it’s fairly clear that they hired all the colorizers who were too incompetent to work for Ted Turner.
Seriously, guys, it’s been one garishly ugly comic after another so far. These comics, like Casablanca, were created to be seen in black and white. Let’s leave them that way, okay?
By the way, shortly after I posted this — and shortly before she noticed I’d posted it — Nicole submitted it as a LOL
