Okay, so it seemed to be working out okay, and then somebody e-mails me to tell me that the background color bothers her because it’s too fecal. Well, nobody wants to have a fecal website background, of course, so I go into the cascading stylesheet editor to change the background color. How tough can that be, just altering a little code? I mean, I don’t know what a cascading stylesheet actually is, but how tough can it be?

So… I broke it. I don’t know, I switch from Fecal Brown to Sky Blue, and all of a sudden this looks like Salvidor Dali’s website. There’s a lesson here, I’m sure.

I’ll probably download a fresh copy of the template sometime this weekend, but in the meantime we’re back to CIDU Classsic.

For Not So Bad

I’ve never hesitated to complain about this strip’s forced and often-inappropriate quips, but I have to come to its defense on this one: Given the multiple stresses of the day, and the assurance that Grandpa Jim will recover, this is both a realistic and reasonable joke for Ellie to make.

I myself have made similar comments in similar circumstances.

My son’s former girlfriend’s family owned a restaurant, and that restaurant had a website as well. I don’t recall reacting to this information by saying “oh, of course” and he certainly didn’t go all goggly-eyed (though to be honest, I’ve barely seen his eyes over the past two years).

Unless… Is Gene saying that he never actually saw the restaurant other than online, which would explain Arlo’s disdain though not necessarily Gene’s impersonation of a saucer-eyed kid from one of those paintings that were so popular in the 1960s? But that’s hardly likely if he’s been visiting her regularly, since she’d have been spending a lot of time in the restaurant.
