Okay, is this like how doctors won’t treat patients who are members of their own families (or barbers not cutting their own hair)? Because seriously, if I were a plumber, I wouldn’t be paying somebody else hundreds of dollars to do something in my own home that I could quickly do myself.

Should we infer from this that Janis is shocked that Mary Lou knows how to use the word “inferred” correctly? Maybe now she’s thinking “Well, this can’t be all that bad, at least the girl my son is infatuated with is highly literate.”

Did I miss a panel here? I didn’t see anybody particularly saying Grandpa Jim was going to be okay, yet I really don’t get the sense that Elly was lying. And geez, the entire strip essentially ends in a couple of days. Would it have cost Lynn Johnston, you know, money or anything to let the guy regain some semblance of health before then? I mean what is this, Funky Winkerbean?
