A Is For…

“Type-A Man” really doesn’t make sense here. Am I the only one who thinks Meddick was forced to change it to “Type-A Man” from “Anal Man”?

or how about “AR-Man” –it’s not just initials, it’s a way of life!

Huh. Of all the strips to be using Non-Sequitor’s Grammar-Man-Superhero trope, this is the last one I thought would do so.

Just to clarify… the author means a Type-A personality, right?

    Absolutely Anal-Retentive!
No need to give us Type-As a bad name (LOL)

But I agree that “type A” is not the same thing as “Anal-Retentive”. The former is more about being an overachiever, is it not?

Yes, and it’s also possible that the author doesn’t know the diff.

Type A personalities are not “overachievers”; they’re aggressive, competitive, and achievement-oriented.

Here’s the thing: Monty isn’t at all a Type A individual. But, regardless of what input the syndicate editors may have had, “Anal Man” just doesn’t sound good.

He’s certainly being an A**hole. Maybe that’s what the A stands for.

One trait often attributed to Type A’s is being “incapable of relaxation”, which I think could interpreted as being applicable here, depending on one’s definition of “relax”.

I wouldn’t think a Type-a(nal) grammar superhero would start most of his sentences with “And…”.

Last month the wife and I went to Victoria, B.C., for a little vacation. Driving into the city, there’s a sign on the side of the highway for Vanalman Road, which of course had the “V” spraypainted over, leaving a sign for “analman Road.”

The paradox, of course, is that if this were really Analman Road, somebody would have noticed and fixed the sign almost immediately.
