I learned about ‘Bless her heart” from the much missed Molly Ivens. She said that you could say anything about any one as long as you finished with with ‘bless her heart’ — “That Bobbie Sue is so fat she has her own zip code, bless her heart”

Wouldn’t this qualify as an Arlo, because of the alternate meaning of the epithet in panel one? Kind of like how “pissed off” isn’t considered all that vulgar anymore, in addition to “suck”.

Ha “Bless her heart” has long been considered one of the ugliest things a Southern woman could say about another.
