Nicole sent this as a lol (”CSI — Cat Swat Investigation”), but it’s a CIDU to me (though I guess that’s technically redundant, like referring to an ATM machine):

ADD stands for Attention Deficit Disorder, and a quick Google turned up a page for Adult ADD, so no there’s no redundancy there.
The second one, about the cat and SWAT, is a CIDU for me. What are they doing in his office?

If you’re wondering what the SWAT team is doing in that man’s office, then you do in fact understand the joke.

The redundancy would be “CIDU to me”- “Comics I Don’t Understand to me” contains two references to oneself, when only one is needed.

It’s not really redundant according to how the mind organizes words and grammar. For use, “CIDU” is a single word, not four different words. Usually when people look at an acronym they classify it as one word. Generally, a word can not have more than one part of speech (noun, verb, etc) at the same time. A noun can have more than one parts of speech in general, but in a specific sentence it generally only means one thing. In this instance, we take it to be a noun. It’s a CIDU. Grammar freaks may pick on people who do this, but the fact is we all do due to the way the human mind works. It’s perfect natural to say “CIDU” to me because in English, usually a word is one part of speech, not a noun, pronoun, tense marker, and verb. So we pick the most likely one and use it that way.
I personally embrace the use of acronyms this way because it’s interesting, and to criticize someone over doing this is just nitpicky.

There are people that like cats, and then there are people that own them.

Maybe you just have to be a cat person to get the CSI — but I don’t think so.
This is a scene often played out in the movies. An innocent person is in a closed in area with someone, who unbeknownst to them is a psychopathic killer. The police then get a loved to to call to inform the innocent of the danger they are in. Oh and notice that the SWAT team is listening in.
I thought the juxtapositioning of the scene and it being about a cat was very funny.
This comic could have just as easily been a dog, bird or a turtle and it would have been funny to me.

A note on the first one: Knowing the way ADD works, it probably got him into the duel in the first place!

I think it’s great that the sign outside the door in the death one says “Cardiacial Testing Stuff”.

what is K2? I’m noticing those characters turning up in Bizarro along with the alien, eyeball, pie, bird, etc. How long has K2 been part of the party?

Lindsey, I figured it was a choice between acknowledging the redundancy, or having Carl Fink point it out by 12:01.

Rasheed, here’s Piraro’s “explanation” of the K-2 Thing:

(Note: It doesn’t actually expalin anything)

Slandered!
BTW, Bill,at least on Firefox 2, the “Notify me of followup comments” for each post is literally four screens away from the “Send Comment” button, with the result that I only noticed it yesterday. Is there any way to move that up closer to the actual comments?
Nicole Jun 24th 2008 at 10:43 am 13
Carl, this has been brought up elsewhere , this is a Firefox issue and Bill can’t do anything about it. Firefox 3.0 has the same problem. It could be that Wordpress does not use standard HTML. In anycase - I have reported it to the FF team, hopefully it will be fixed.

After I’d gotten nice and comfy under the bed covers, I’d hear my cat making shredding noises or making something fall down or making a loud *yark* in another room, forcing me to get up and go investigate/clean up. What’s wrong with this cartoon (even though I like it) is that the cat is just sitting there. It should be at least knocking something off the sill, or thrashing its tail. Why else bring in the swat (geddit? swat?) team.

Ah yes — there is nothing like the coughing of a hairball to come — especially at 3:00 am

The “notify me of followups” problem occurs in Opera, also (I never even knew the checkbox was there until reading this comment thread), so it’s unlikely to be a Firefox problem. It’s probably just another case of poorly-written HTML (or CSS) in Wordpress. Another one, that took me a long time to figure out, is that they assume that the browser’s default background color is white; until realizing that, I wondered for a long time what those ugly little white rectangles are in the top left and bottom right corners of items.

Morris — this works fine in I.E.
I remember reading a while ago that there was a proprietary java or html that was I.E. specific. It is possible that Wordpress is using this and that is what is causing the problems.
With the popularity of FF I am surprised
anyone is writing specifically for I.E.
In any case — Bill can’t fix it
