Dad pays him for good grades, but hides the books so his grades are low, allowing Dad to keep the money on hookers that would otherwise be spent on rewards for the boy’s report card.

I was going with the corollary: Dad punishes son for bad grades by sleeping with hookers. Dad hides son’s textbooks so that dad will be able to sleep with more hookers. Why dad needs the son’s grades to “justify” sleeping with hookers is still beyond me. It did get a chuckle out of me though, so I suppose that’s all that matters.

I was originally thinking the same as Mel, and that’s still my first choice - but arik’s explanation is also plausible.

By the way, I think the reason Dad needs to justify sleeping with hookers is because Zach’s last comic posted here was about to move onto page 2, and we’ve turned him into a CIDU whore. ; )

I think that the son gets a hooker if he gets good grades. If he gets bad grades, the father not only keeps the sons hooker, but he has his own as well.

Spending all of his son’s college money on hookers was my thought. That is why he is hiding his books.

Am I the ONLY one who thinks this deserves an EWWWWWW ???

The man is sleeping with two hookers and telling his son !!!!! EWWWWWWWW

  7. Nicole May 31st 2008 at 09:01 am 7

Oh — and I think he makes his son pay for the hookers — double EWWWWWWWW

Wow, no one’s gotten this yet. Ok, so to try to motivate the son to get good grades, he tells him something like, “I’m going to get a couple of hookers when report cards come out. If you get straight A’s, one of them is yours!” Then when the kid fails to achieve such high marks, “Oh darn, you didn’t make it. Well, it’d be a shame for this second hooker to go to waste, so I guess I’ll just have to sleep with both of them.” Hence the emphasis on “two hookers”. Unfortunately for the kid, this turns out to be a poor way to motivate him, since it gives the dad such a big incentive to ensure the son’s failure.

I was thinking that the dad would keep news of bad grades from MOM as long as Junior kept news of hookers from her also. But hiding worse grades apparently translates to hiding more hookers.

Count Shrimpula and Lord-z’s explanations are the only ones that really make (humourous) sense to me. I read it they same way they did.

Show me an “A”, and I’ll show you an “A”.

  12. BGneiss Jun 1st 2008 at 02:09 am 12

Yup, I think the Count and Lord nailed it. I think I would’ve gotten it sooner if Dad said “both hookers” instead of “two hookers”.

  13. Powers Jun 1st 2008 at 09:09 am 13

That’s what’s still tripping me up. From the wording, it’s clear he’s adding an additional hooker, or that “two” is the corresponding number of hookers for a “C-” grade, per agreement. If he was simply usurping his kid’s hooker, he would have said “both”. I’m not buying it.

The doesn’t even look old enough to be in junior high. I hope his dad wasn’t renting him a hooker.

Also, I think a comic needs to be banned from the cidu page if it appears, as a cidu, more than a certain number of times in a short period. I’d say three times in two weeks. If it shows up that much, it indicates that maybe it’s just not that funny.

And I think this strip has come pretty close.

The thing is, Todd, SMBC is hilarious. But it is strips from the entire six year run that is being submitted. That is, as of today, 1149 strips. I think that this one, for example, is a couple of years old.

Mel had it right way up the top. Powers gives a good reason why it’s not what Lord-z or Count says. That and the kid is like 10, far too young for hookers. Besides that, Mel’s explanation actually makes the comic hilarious, the other interpretations aren’t. For Nicole, and people talking about his mother, I think you just have to assume his father is not a great parent and divorced.
