This just irritates me: I know quite a few people who have children, grandchildren or other family members to whom they’re not related by blood, and it wouldn’t occur to any of them to even think the words “as if they were my own.”

Nicole sent this one as an Arlo Page candidate, but I thought it was way too contrived: Why would Walt even entertain the possibility that his guitar-playing son was referring to anything other than a guitar string: Even Jeremy doesn’t think his father is that stupid.
 
If my son told me his g-string broke, I’d probably make some comment along the line that his butt must have gotten too big, and he’d roll his eyes and say something along the lines of “You think you’re a lot funnier than you are,” but it would never occur to me that he’d suddenly begun cross-dressing.
 
And just for the record, we’ve already seen that Walt does the family laundry.

Optimistic Breasts

Not a comic I didn’t understand, granted, but equally in need of explanation: I’m reading Jonathan Kellerman’s new crime novel, and he describes a woman as being in her early twenties, whatever-color hair, and that she has “optimistic breasts.”

Anybody want to take a guess at what this means?

Probably just a silly question, considering the strip… but is Arlo’s posture in the final panel supposed to indicate that he’s become arouse by the fact that Janis told a bad joke?
 
It’s also possible that he’s about to crush her skull with the shovel he’s carrying, but that would probably be more Andy Capp teritory

weasel.jpgPinny: I don’t really get the 1st panel (though I know that it is parodying the old line, “Is that a banana in your pocket or are you just glad to see me?”) And I REALLY don’t get the last panel, i.e., the punchline. Is it supposed to imply that a hairy chest a worse insult to Bucky than either monkeys or weasels?
