Well, the more obvious part of the joke, as indicated by the the “Customer Psychoanalysis Lounge” door, is that the waitress, Tina, is having to try to figure out, “What did the customer mean when he did/said/asked for *that*?” (If I remember correctly, “Tina’s Groove” ran a week-long series of these; barring that, it’s a feature that occasionally shows up in the strip.) If I had to make a guess about where the question comes from, it’s from the sports stars who appear on Wheaties boxes–the guy wants to know if he can get a picture of his favorite sports star in wallet-size, so he can carry it around in his wallet.

But the main thrust of the joke is, basically, “Customers say the darndest things.”

I guess the cartoonist has never ordered cold cereal in a restaurant - it’s ALWAYS wallet-sized. The don’t keep big boxes around to go stale, they give you a nice, sealed, single-sized box. It’s not anything new, I’ve been aware of them for at least 40 years. They used to be my favorite thing when I was a tot - getting to slice open the box, pour in the milk, and not even need a bowl… mmmm, I know what I’m having for lunch!

They may be small but I don’t see how they’d fit in a wallet. =)
