I sort of agree with Count Shrimpula about the SMBC comic, but I don't think it's that complicated. We're made to think that she has been wronged by one of the twins, and wants to shoot him, but doesn't know which one is which - but the caption reveals that neither one of them knows who she is. But I think she is probably just deranged and psychotic, and this is just a random act of violence.

It's pretty similar to this one:

She really means to say: "I don't know WHOM to shoot!".
See? That's the joke: you can use bad grammar if you
hold two pistols.

Thanks for the explanations.

BTW, re: Frank (#10): watch the movie "The Prestige". While your scenario does not happen in the film, I think that you might you might understand why I recommend it, once you see it.

Wasn't there a legal issue a while back when a woman complained that she'd been raped when she found out that she had sex with the wrong brother (twin ??)?

No, no, it's a joke about the old cliché of the evil twin. Those sorts of things always come down to a standoff where a friend or significant other has the good twin and the evil twin at gunpoint, and he/she doesn't know which is which.

This is usually when the good twin says, "The only way to be sure it to shoot us both!" and then they can shoot the other one, because only the good one would say that. Except when the evil one is being tricky.

Anyway, the joke is that it's set up as that sort of situation, then you read the caption and realize she's reenacting one of those types of scenes by walking up to a random set of twins on the street. They've had no interaction with her, so she doesn't have any reason to believe either of them needs to be shot.

Well, she's confused because one of them done her wrong and they are identical twins and she doesn't know which....however, since neither of them remembers her, either there is a triplet involved, one of them has a really bad memory (blind drunk one night?), or she's got it all wrong.

For some reason I HAD found it funny, but now that I've examined it, something is lost.

Oh well.
