Heart’s mom’s comment is a bit of a CIDU, actually…

Here’s the Doonesbury strip to which Mark refers (in the Comments section):

Heart’s mom feels that Heart never leaves her alone (that is, is always watching her). Thirty years ago her response would probably have been “Don’t feel like the Lone Ranger, Heart.”

SatchelFan, I’m sure that’ll be obvious once you explain it, but…

Mom is trying to read and, presumably, not be disturbed while doing so. The girl is watching her every move to the point that she’s sitting at her shoulder. Some kids have separation anxiety to such a degree that they never let their parents out of their sight if they can help it. Maybe that’s the case here. I think they are both mildly amusing. Now if it had been Preteena’s mom, it would have been an outright mean response.

Bill — Satchel comment refers to the LONE in Lone Ranger. Just another way of saying ‘you are not alone’

    Yes, what Nicole said!

You could also include Doonesbury in Sunday Synchronicity. It’s LED’s, not eyes, but at least now I understand the “put a sock on them” punchline. (This is the first time I’ve tried to link to a printed newspaper. Does the link work?)

Swing and a miss, Mark, unless you’re trying to link your own computer to this site and your machine’s turned off right now.

    Rasheed,

mark’s link was meant to be tongue-in-cheek.

Here’s link to an online copy:

I was wondering that, but ask a direct question, get a direct answer.

About that Doonesbury, it truely is amazing what will, or won’t, keep me up at night. Sometimes I can sleep with the lights on, and sometimes the blinking light in the smoke detector bothers me all night. I’m more affected by sound; I had one roommate with two windup alarm clocks plus another clock. He’d go home on the weekends, and the tick-tick-ticks would get to me so I’d throw the whole lot of them into the kitchen drawer until he came back.

The Doonesbury is a rerun I think, but I guess that still counts for Synchronicity. =)

@SatchelFan, now I understand the joke… At first I thought that Heart’s mom was hot and that all the guys in the street couldn’t get their eyes of her…. but your explanation is much better :)
