The Mystery of Punch an’ Pie

Okay, the strip is a year old today, so I think it’s reasonable to ask… Why the hell is it called Punch an’ Pie?

Or has this been obvious from Day One, some off-color reference I was just too naive to pick up on?

“Because more people will come if they think there’s punch and pie!” -Eric Cartman

I don’t know if that’s really it, but it’s all I can think of.

It has to be South Park inspired.

“I was told there would be punch and pie.”
    “There isn’t any.”

All I could think of was that both words “punch” and “pie” can be prefixed with “easy as.” I’m not at all clued into pop culture, though.

Hmmm. Thinking simple, I felt the title described the ups and downs of Angela and friends - how life gives a punch in the eye one day, pie the next.

I’d go w/South Park. In the link to the new comic from her older one (Queen of Wands), she says: “There will be Punch. an’ Pie.” Seems to reference the South Park thing the closest.

“Punch the pie” = female masturbation according to urban dictionary.

Isn’t everything slang for female masturbation according to the urban dictionary? That’s why I read it.

Thanks and goodnight folks! I’ll be here all week!

It reminds me of Sluggy Freelance when they made a comic with the remark “What’s a ’sluggy’ anyway?”, to paraphrase. When I read that, I realized that the name of the comic makes very little sense. The main character is a freelancer, but that’s the only real link between the comic and its name.

As for Punch an’ Pie, it seems to me to just be a generic name for a comic which may or may not have anything to do with the characters or happenings, but gives the comic a distinct remembrance. Kind of like Peanuts.
